FJVD Weekly Info
We Live the Word!
From the Principal's Desk
Dear FJVD Families,
When the school year began in August of 2019, it would have been impossible to imagine we would find ourselves where we are today. It's been a journey with more than its fair share of hardships, challenges, and obstacles. For teachers, staff, students, and families alike, this year has certainly not been an easy one. And yet, as we mark our last official day of school for the 2019-2020 school year, I find myself filled not with despair, but with hope - looking to the future of Father John V. Doyle School knowing that, having overcome this challenge, we are that much wiser, that much stronger, that much more prepared to face the difficulties that may lie ahead. As Samwise Gamgee remarks in The Lord of the Rings:
"It’s like in the great stories, the ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were... But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines, it will shine out the clearer."
As I look forward to the 2020-2021 school year, there is, of course, much uncertainty about how school will look when we return in August. Yet, there is also great certainty in the skill and passion of our teachers, in the joy and determination of our students, and in the strength of our school community. As St. Paul reflects, we have run the race, we have competed well, we are #FJVDStrong, and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for our school.
Important Notes for the Upcoming 2020-2021 School Year:
The 2020-2021 Academic Calendar was released to families yesterday via email, along with this Calendar Brief for families. Please note the change in early dismissal days.
Reassured by the Governor's goal - announced Wednesday - that all students return to full-time, on-campus schooling in the fall, we are working to prepare appropriate plans for re-opening. Some of these initial plans were shared at our Family Town Hall Meeting on Monday evening, June 8th. If you were not able to attend the meeting, you can find the presentation notes here. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this information, please do not hesitate to contact the school. A more comprehensive re-opening plan will be communicated to families as further guidelines are provided by the Department of Health and Department of Education.
Our re-opening plans will undoubtedly include additional expenses as we look to expand our technology offerings, purchase additional sanitation and nursing supplies, and provide tuition assistance for families in need. With this in mind, I am thrilled to announce that our 2020 Auction raised over $23,000, all of which will be used to meet these additional expenses in the year ahead. A special thank you to our Auction Chairs, Mrs. Linda DiChristofaro and Mrs. Karen Midolo for all of their efforts, and to all of our volunteers and community members who made this event possible!
With distance learning for the 2020-2021 school year officially coming to a close, we are eager to hear parent/student feedback in order to continue to enhance our learning practices. We would be grateful if you would take the time to complete this in-depth distance learning survey and reflection.
Finally, please know that we will continue to keep families updated throughout the summer regarding fall re-opening plans. The Weekly Info will continue to be published, and additional Town Hall Meetings will be announced as plans for re-opening are solidified over the summer months. Please stay in touch and continue to check for email and other correspondence from the school.
It has been a tremendous honor and privilege to serve this school community during these tumultuous and challenging times. I thank you for your passion, your joy, and your commitment to the mission of Father John V. Doyle School. May God bless you over these summer months.
Stay safe, stay healthy, and Go Saints!
Sincerely,
Mr. Peloquin

Aluminum Can Tab Collection
What: Aluminum can tabs are being collected
Why: To support the Ronald McDonald House in Providence
How can you help? Save can tabs and send them in to Mr. Godin’s room.
Bottle Cap Drive
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This provides new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket. When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply send in bottle caps or product codes from boxes of beverages and our school receives a donation.
All caps and codes should be sent to Mr. Godin. Codes will be entered on one account to gain larger and quicker donations.
Thank you!
