Weekly Recaps
BOYS TENNIS by Colin Malone:
This week the boys traveled to Cape Cod Academy, as well as hosted Sturgis East/West at home.
Starting the week off strong with a win, the boys took it to CCA with a 4-1 match score finish. Each player did their part to get us the win.
On Wednesday the team had a nailbiter down to the last match against Sturgis. Junior Matt Barbella and Sophomore Max Weinberg came up with the final win, in tiebreaker fashion, to push the team to a 3-2 match score in favor of Monomoy.
The team now sits at a record of 3-1.
The guys carry a loaded schedule next week, hosting Nauset and a rematch against Cape Cod Academy. Following the end of the week, we travel to Nantucket.
GIRLS TENNIS by Olivia Prisco:
The girls tennis team won both of their matches this week, against CCA and Sturgis East. On Tuesday, while playing against Sturgis East, each player played extremely well, and the entire lineup won their matches. In addition, the boys and girls team are proud that we sold 6 of the 18 mattresses bought at the fundraiser on Sunday.
UNIFIED TRACK by Anna Bianco:
Monomoy Unified Track and Field had a stellar performance today at our first unified track meet. at Sandwich High School. Co- Captains Brendan Pawlina and Anna Bianco set personal records in the 100 meter dash, long jump and shot put. Brendan ran his heart out and had everyone on their feet cheering. Anna, the definition of what a Captain should be, ran by Brendan’s side as his own personal cheerleader. Rory Farris stole the hearts of all the spectators with his unwavering support and encouragement for all his teammates. He also had a personal best in the 100 meter dash. Jessica Horsfall made her first track meet debut with outstanding form and body mechanics in the shot put. Brady Grogan was a pivotal teammate during the relay ensuring the athletes new where to go and when to start, and had his personal best in the long jump. Grace Jodice, our seasoned athlete, has shown incredible growth and strength in her long jump. Lastly, Stella Linnell showed the world what it means to enjoy life to it’s fullest as she smiled and giggled throughout every event, especially as the anchor in the 4x100 meter relay.
SOFTBALL by Devinne Wilson:
This week the Softball team encountered themselves against some pitcher with versatile pitches. At the beginning of each game, we struggled but as we got further into the game we pulled together as a team and worked together to come back. We have realized that if we want to keep winning games we will have to keep working harder than any other team, and want it more badly than they do as well. We will need to go into our games with clear heads and no expectations.
BOYS LACROSSE by Jake Burnie:
This week the Junior Varsity played Cape Cod Academy on Monday. It was a great experience for the boys, especially the new guys who were able to work on skills against a smaller, younger team. Harrison Aristhomene, a midfielder, stepped between the pipes and played goalie for the first quarter before our starting goalie stepped in, Josh Lovely. Josh has never played lacrosse until this year and has proven to be a brick wall between the orange pipes. His hard work and determination has brought him up to speed quickly. The JV won 6-4, goals scored by Charlie Southworth, two goals. Charlie Hamilton, one goal. Tamer Khalil, one goal and Braden Yarletts, also two goals. These guys have been playing both varsity and junior varsity really proving that they want to be on the field. No varsity games this week however it was nice to have some time to settle down after a three game streak last week and reset. There are things that we needed to work on as a team. We have some starters back from quarantine and cleared from injuries so we are striving for a win next Tuesday when we host Sturgis at 4:00 o’clock on the turf… Be There!
