PCK Weekly Newsletter
February 1st, 2024

February 22, 2024
Last week, the School Accountability Committee (SAC) launched the first of three weekly mini-surveys, and approximately one-third of all PCK families responded. Thank you to the parents who have shared their valuable feedback! Your insights will help guide us toward even greater success.
Every student at PCK is important to us, and each family has a different experience. These mini-surveys help give that experience a voice. Our goal is to gather insights from every PCK family, and your voice is crucial in creating a comprehensive picture. We believe the best is yet to come, and we need your help to make it happen!
This week's mini-survey will focus on safety. Your thoughts on this topic will contribute to enhancing the physical and emotional well-being of students.
Please click here to access this week's mini survey. Remember, your responses are completely anonymous, and all input helps ensure that we keep PCK the Blue Ribbon School it is.
Thank you for being an essential part of PCK's journey to continuous improvement!

Missed last week's survey? SAC Survey Community & Communication (1 of 3)What's with the new Newsletter?
As you have probably noticed, this week's newsletter looks different than previous newsletters. The content and purpose remain unchanged, but we are always striving to do better.
We are moving towards this format for a few reasons:
- It provides accessibility features that our previous version did not. It can be translated into a number of languages.
- It isn't a pdf so it loads quicker.
- And I can use emoji's 👏🏻
With the benefits come some limitations, so bear with us while we navigate those pieces.
Previous week's newsletters can always be found on our website by clicking on the news button on the main page.

🍎 From the Lunchroom
The free school lunch program is a very popular choice for many PCK students. Unfortunately, we've noticed that students don't always love the daily food selection and sometimes choose to skip lunch. Or, students may find that portion sizes of some entrees may not be enough to satisfy their growing body for the entire day. Hungry students may have difficulty focusing in the classroom or feel tired or irritable at the end of the day. No one likes to feel hungry!
We encourage parents to check the calendar weekly to make sure the menu is something your child will enjoy. Ask your student if they have enough to eat at lunch and consider sending lunch from home or supplementing the school lunch with snack items that your child will eat.
JOIN US IN THE LUNCHROOM! We welcome lunchroom volunteers!
The lunch period is from 10:40-1:00 pm.
Leap Day, which occurs on February 29th, only comes around once every four years! It's an extra day added to the calendar to keep our calendars in sync with the Earth's revolutions around the sun. It's a fascinating concept that we think offers a fantastic opportunity for some fun and educational activities at school.
We're planning a schoolwide Leap Day Celebration on February 29th, here is what you can expect:
- Students will have an "Extra Colorful" Dress Down Day. To celebrate the extra day, please encourage your child to wear as many colors as possible. As always, if students do not want to dress down in "Extra Colorful" attire they are welcome to come dressed in uniform.
- Younger Students K-3 will work with older students to "Leap Forward." Students will visit the classrooms of the grade level they will be in the next time this day comes around. Our kindergarten students will be in 4th grade next time we have a February 29th, our 1st graders in 5th! How time flies!
Help us in celebrating this extra special day!
It's CMAS Snack Time!
CMAS testing is coming up right after spring break. In order to make sure our 3rd-8th grade students are fueled throughout the day, we're asking parents to bring in testing snacks. Please sign up using the appropriate link below.
Mini Cougar Camp
PCK's Spirit Team is excited to host our annual mini camp for PCK K-5th graders! Spirit Team mini camp aims to spark interest in dance and cheer within our school community. Participants will learn a short dance to perform alongside the Spirit Team at a PCK boys' volleyball game! Please join us for camp after school on Monday, March 11th until 5:00 pm. Our mini cougars will perform the following day at the boy's volleyball game on Tuesday, March 12th at 4:00 pm. Go Cougars!
Mini cougars will receive a T-shirt to wear when they perform at the game.

News From the Board
The Board of Directors continues to conduct interviews with candidates for the school director position, and we anticipate continuing this process over the next couple of weeks. At the conclusion of this stage, we plan to share a list of finalists, highlighting those individuals who have demonstrated the qualities and skills we believe are essential for the continued success of our community. Your ongoing support and engagement are greatly appreciated as we work to select the best candidates.
Should you have questions or want to share comments with the board you can do so, here. (board@ckcs.net)
Josh Haslage
Josh is a parent of two PCK students in 3rd & 1st grades and one incoming kindergartener. Their family has been following along with PCK since the 2nd day of their oldest son’s life when they first heard they needed to get on the wait list from a nurse at the hospital! He ran for the board after hearing that the long-serving director was retiring and wanted to be involved in the next stages of the school’s evolution.
While Josh is a Colorado native, his family life had him moving around the country, and a small stint in Germany, but always returning to Colorado. He is currently the Chief Strategy Officer for a local freight transportation company helping them triple in size over the last decade. When not working, he is helping his kids explore different sports interests.
He believes in the mission of PCK, and the way they challenge his children to thrive in becoming well-rounded individuals. He enjoys assisting PCK in any way he can to further the school’s legacy.
