A message from Miss Remillard
Happy New Year and welcome to the second half of the school year!
During our December PBIS Assembly, we celebrated our student achievements and encouraged "Making good choices." The start of a new year is the perfect time to set some new goals, which is our Skill of the Month for January! Please see link below for tips on how to teach your children how to set and accomplish their goals!
At George Washington School we encourage healthy eating habits. If you choose to send your child to school with a snack, please be sure you provide healthy options. Soda, energy drinks and candy are not acceptable snack options. Please see the link below for healthy snack ideas for parents. Thank you for your cooperation!
Parent Literacy Tips
“Share the Pen” Writing with Your Child: "Shared writing" gives young children the chance to do some writing while you fill in the rest. This is how it works: Decide together with your child what to write and then you "share the pen" as you write. You can tackle the unknown parts and let your child write the letters/words they can tackle. You can then read what you wrote, invite your child to read it, or read it together. Try creating a daily schedule, poem or a list of outdoor activities to do together.

GW CLASSROOM HIGHLIGHT!
Meet our Intermediate Team!
Picture above: Mrs. Hunter (Social Studies), Mr. Miron (Science) and Miss Hanaburgh (Math)
The Intermediate Team prepare 4th through 6th graders for middle school while here at GW. While in this program students rotate teachers for Social Studies, Science and Math each day. Students focus on individualized Math and Reading goals in their homerooms. Mrs. Hunter, Mr. Miron and Ms. Hanaburgh collaborate on cross curricular content planning as well as novel studies each month. Students in the intermediate program come together to celebrate learning as a group. In the month of December after studying a unit of Holidays Around the World students gathered and created their own gingerbread houses to take home and enjoy.
