The Weekly SharkBeat!
SJHS Weekly Parent Newsletter - January 14, 2024
Thank you all for your continued support as we completed our first semester. I have several reminders for you this evening as we wrap up 1st Semester and begin 2nd Semester this Wednesday, January 17, 2024.
There will be no school Monday, in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, and Tuesday is a teacher work day. We look forward to seeing students on Wednesday as we begin second semester classes.
2nd Semester schedules will be viewable in PowerSchool on Tuesday afternoon. For students unable to access their schedules online, schedules will be posted in the Gym and Cafeteria when students arrive on Wednesday morning.
In addition to kicking off the 2nd Semester, we are busy preparing for our 2024 Kindness Week, January 22nd through 26th. Please take a moment to review the list of activities and events listed in the newsletter below.
Thank you for taking the time to review the Weekly Sharkbeat Newsletter. Please check the school website and Facebook page for additional updates and information. Thank you for choosing to be a part of the Shark family. Have a great evening, keep swimming forward, and as always, Go SHARKS!

A Note From Guidance
Attention Juniors
If you are interested in the telecommunications field after graduation please stop by guidance to learn about an exciting opportunity.
Senior year can be overwhelming for students and parents. Join us for a rising senior meeting on February 5 at 5:00 pm in the SJHS auditorium. We will share important dates, what to expect financially, and other valuable information to be ready for the last year of high school.
Seniors And Parents
Seniors and parents:
Mrs. Tubbs has sent out an updated scholarship list to students. The link is included below also.
Now that the FAFSA has changed we will be hosting a meeting with college representatives on February 5 at 6:00 pm in the SJHS auditorium. Come and get all of your questions answered about filling this out for your seniors.
Underclassmen And Parents
We are still scheduling underclassmen IGP conferences. If you have not scheduled your meeting you are not too late. In these meetings we will discuss plans after high school and course selections for next school year. We would love for you to come in and meet with us. Please contact your child’s counselor to get this scheduled.
Our second semester of classes will be starting on January 17. Once grades are final for the first semester counselors will work on rescheduling and balancing classes for the spring semester. If your child is in danger of failing teachers should be reaching out to you to make you aware of this. During the first 5 days of the second semester students will be provided with a form to fill out if they need to request a change to their schedule. These will only be honored if they have previously passed the class or if they are missing a prerequisite class.
Testing look ahead:
ACT Feb. 27
ASVAB March 6
SAT March 12
WIN March 25
January 20th Valentine's Dance
Tickets may be purchased on mypaymentsplus.com now or during lunches starting Wednesday, January 17th.

Early Pick Up
If you plan to pick your student up early or your student will drive off campus early, please send a note with your student to be turned in before school starts at the Welcome Desk. We will verify the note and give your student a pass to meet you or leave at the appropriate time. Sending a note cuts down on class interruptions. Unfortunately, we cannot accept phone calls or emails to dismiss students. We appreciate your help.
Driving On Campus
Parents should always use the front entrance to pick students up for early dismissal. Additionally, we ask that you follow the traffic pattern set forth by SJH. Please do not move cones, go around cones or make unsafe decisions to shorten your time on campus. Please help us keep our students safe by following our traffic patterns.
