"Your Child's Anxiety" Webinar Scheduled for Tuesday, December 12
District 41 is offering twelve one-hour parent coaching webinars (in English and Spanish), referred to as the Mental Health Series. These are designed to support parents on topics such as anxiety, the effects of screen time and your child’s mental health, and suicide prevention.
Over 80 District 41 families have participated or watched the first webinar. We hope to continue to increase this number and provide valuable information/support to families. Our goal is to see our participation numbers double. These are extremely valuable resources for families and participation will drive future decisions for the district.
The next webinar event "Your Child's Anxiety" will take place on Tuesday, December 12 at 6:30 pm.

Parent Coaching During the Holidays
We know the holiday season can bring on additional stress. Parent Coaching is a FREE resource that provides parents and caregivers the opportunity to meet with a Parent Coach to guide you through whatever issues you or your child are dealing with.
Over 190 District 41 families have engaged with Parent Coaching through the website and 13 families have been working directly with a coach. If you need support or simply have a parenting question, this is for you! We hope the number of families engaging with coaching continues to increase and provides the support needed.

Connect 41 Community Newsletter | Winter 2023
Twice a year, District 41 sends out a print newsletter to all households in the District 41 boundaries. If you live within District 41, you should have received a newsletter in the mail over the past couple of weeks. Sending a print newsletter is one of the ways District 41 connects with the almost 80 percent of households that do not currently have children attending a District 41 school. The most recent newsletter includes updates and celebrations about building a full day kindergarten center, new free mental health resources for families, a number of student accomplishments, and welcoming a new Board of Education member.

Foreign Language Spanish Teacher Publishes Children’s Book
Churchill Elementary Foreign Language in the Elementary School (FLES) teacher Megan Petramale recently published the book “El Armadillo Amarillo.” It's a Spanish-language, rhyming children's book that is about an armadillo who is sad because the other animals make fun of him and the way he dresses. He learns that it is important to just embrace being yourself and being happy, and others will follow. “I wrote the book because as a language teacher, it was sometimes a struggle to find quality stories in Spanish that weren't just translated stories from English--especially with rhyming! And, as a teacher and a mom, I always love stories that tie in SEL lessons!,” said Mrs. Petramale.
Lincoln School Raises Funds for Honor Flight
Lincoln School celebrated Veterans Day in a number of ways this year. In addition to a bulletin board honoring veterans, Lincoln ran a change collection in honor of Veterans Day. This month-long collection raised money to help sponsor a senior veteran's Honor Flight to Washington, DC to see the monuments built in tribute to their service. The goal was $1,200, which would sponsor one veteran. The school collected $1,357.67! The monthly 5th Grade Gives Back charity initiative also donated November's sales to the collection, bringing the total donation to $1,651.00.
Thank you, Lincoln School community!
Hadley Winter Orchestra Concert
Congratulations to all of the Hadley Orchestra students who performed at the Winter Orchestra Concert on November 29. The 6th Grade Orchestra performed a unique flash mob of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy," which led into an exciting orchestral version of "Beethoven's Ninth" Symphony. 6th grade student, Josephine Huard, performed a beautiful cello solo to lead the orchestra into the Flash Mob. "Jazzy Old Saint Nick," was performed with guest conductor, arranger & violinist, Mr. Tom Bowling. Mr. Bowling arranged classical and jazz solos for students to perform which also led to some jazz improvisation. Electric violins and violas were also used to heighten the excitement. Wonderful solo's were performed by 8th grade student Joleen Jayme on violin, 8th grade student Chloe Kim on viola & 6th grade student Emilie Scarleski on violin.
The 7th and 8th Grade Orchestra performed two exciting selections named " The Abandoned Funhouse," by Brian Balmages and from Carmen's Opera, "Habanera" written by Georges Bizet. This piece also featured our student soloists again with Mr. Bowling performing.
An exciting Grand Finale took place at the end of the performance with all of the 6th, 7th & 8th grade orchestra students combined with Mr. Tom Bowling improvising on Jacques Offenbach's piece entitled the "Can-Can," from Orpheus in the Underworld. It was a beautiful sight to see everyone playing all together! This evening's performance with Mr. Tom Bowling was generously sponsored by the JCS Grant of the DuPage Foundation. Thank you DuPage Foundation!
A sincere thank you goes to our Hadley principal, Mr. Steve Diveley, our special guest artist Mr. Tom Bowling, piano accompanists Mrs. Cathy Hlavacek & Mrs. Susan Locke, Wheaton College Student Miss Claire Collins, and all of the orchestra parents and students helping to prepare for this eventful evening. Congratulations Hadley Orchestra students!
