Bluejacket Family Communication
February 15, 2024
Dear Bluejacket Families,
February is a busy month in our schools! It’s I Love to Read Month, Career-Technical Education Month, Black History Month, and Minnesota School Board Appreciation Month.
Plus, we’ve just opened our Preschool Registration for next fall. At the end of this month, February 29, we invite families of 8th-grade students to Cambridge-Isanti High School to explore all the opportunities for their future goals. This month is all about celebrating our children, their growth, and the community leaders and partnerships that ensure a high-quality education for every student, every day.
From our youngest learners in early childhood family education to our oldest residents who keep their minds and bodies active in our Community Education programs, our community comes together in the gyms, classrooms and auditoriums within our Cambridge-Isanti Schools. In many ways, our schools are community gathering spaces, and we appreciate our partnerships.
At the end of this month, communities around the country will be celebrating Public Schools Week from February 26 to March 1, 2024. This week is dedicated to honoring the role of public education as the heart of our community. It's a testament to our collective promise to ensure every child receives a quality education, regardless of their circumstances.
This month, join us in celebrating the cornerstone of our community—our public schools. Working in partnership with our community, we will continue the legacy and tradition of our community's strength, values, and vision through the next generation of learners, leaders, and innovators. GO BIG BLUE!

Two Fundraising Groups, One Supportive Community
In Cambridge-Isanti Schools, we are fortunate to have many volunteers and fundraising efforts supporting our students and schools. We are grateful. Two groups have significant fundraisers coming up.
Since 1990, Cambridge-Isanti Dollars for Scholars has worked to provide post-secondary education and training to Cambridge-Isanti High School graduates. This commitment remains the same today. During this month’s Dollars for Scholars Give-a-Thon, you can make a donation by mail, by text, or on the web; 100% of the funds raised will be awarded as scholarships to CIHS seniors.
The Bluejacket Education Foundation invests in expanding opportunities for generations of Cambridge-Isanti students through ever-increasing educational grants fueled by generous community donors. (See grants funded in 2023.) The 2024 Future Fest fundraiser will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Circle B Weddings & Events in Isanti. More information and ticket sales will be available at BJEF.givesmart.com.

TAX SAVINGS
Child Tax Credit
Minnesotans can now claim the Child Tax Credit, with no limit on the number of children claimed. You must file a 2023 individual income tax return in order to claim the credit. Most taxpayers who are eligible to claim the new Child Tax Credit are also eligible for free tax preparation assistance. Learn more about income requirements and qualifications on the Child Tax Credit webpage.
The tax credit of up to $1,750 per child is estimated to cut child poverty by up to one-third in Minnesota. Nearly 300,000 households, including 513,000 children, are estimated to qualify for the credit.
Save Receipts for School Supplies
The Minnesota Department of Revenue offers two valuable tax benefits for parents who purchase school supplies for their K-12 students: the K-12 Education Credit and Subtraction. You can reduce taxes to increase your state tax refund, but only if you keep your receipts. Purchases for most school supplies, field trips, and musical instruments for school band are eligible for the tax credit.
Most Minnesota parents qualify for the K-12 subtraction, which reduces taxable income. Parents under certain income limits may also qualify for the K-12 credit, which can refund up to 75% of their costs – even for parents who do not owe any taxes. Visit the Department of Revenue's website for details.
