A Note from Driskill's Desk
For the December Newsletter
Happy December and Happy Advent!
This year the season of Advent will be a little different because of the way it falls on the calendar. Advent will still have 4 weeks, however the 4th week of advent will be on December 24th. We will celebrate the 4th week of advent at our 10am mass, and Christmas Eve at 5pm and 7pm in the Big Church. We hope you can join us for 10am mass in the FFYC and 5pm for the Children’s gospel reenactment in the Big Church.
Last month we had our First Annual Friendsgiving in the FFYC and everyone had a great time getting together after mass. We pray you can join us again for another family gathering on Wednesday, December 6th.
“Stay awake! Be ready!” That is one of the many songs we are singing this advent season during our 10:00am Children’s mass. If you have not had a chance to come to the Children’s mass, we humbly invite you to join us at 10:00am in the Faith Formation Youth Center. This advent, the kids are literally building a place for baby Jesus and we invite you to be part of this beautiful eucharistic celebration!
December has SOOOO many feast days to celebrate! Here are just a few!
December 6th is the Feast of St. Nicholas-In our family, our children would place a pair of shoes under the Christmas tree. Saint Nicholas placed a small item in the shoe the night before. Usually a small toy and as my kids got older, the treat became a food gift card. Now sometimes Saint Nicholas was busy and Saint Nicholas came the night of December 6th(you know Saint Nicholas sometimes forgets). We invite you to another Growing in Faith Together event that evening from 6pm-7:30pm. We will begin with pictures with St. Nick, light snacks, crafts and end with the cartoon movie “Nicholas the Boy Who Became Santa Claus”
December 8th is the Feast of the Immaculate conception. This feast day commemorates the day Mary was conceived in St. Anne’s womb without Original Sin. You can honor Mary by praying the rosary as a family.
The Church also celebrates the feasts of St. Juan Diego (his feast day is December 9th) and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe (her feast is December 12th).
We will be celebrating Bambinelli Sunday on the 3rd Sunday of advent. Please bring your baby Jesus from home to be blessed at the December 17th 10am Children’s mass.
For the most up to date information on our programs, please subscribe to flocknote, view the TVs in the building, check our website, or check out the links for our social media at the bottom of the newsletter.
Once again, thank you for all of your support of the faith formation program. We pray you have a blessed Advent season!
God Bless,
Mrs. Driskill

Elementary Faith Formation
The Advent Season is such a special time in our Elementary Faith Formation classes. Each room has an Advent Wreath and the students have been talking about ways they can prepare to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Our youngest students are discussing Advent Acts of Kindness, which are ways they can help prepare themselves and their home for Jesus. It can be simple things like smiling at someone, helping your parents with chores, or being a good friend. Some of our older students have made Christmas cards that will be given to the SEAS Ministry of Care. They are spreading cheer to those in our parish community who are not able to come celebrate the Advent season in person.
We want our children to know that the Advent and Christmas seasons are about so much more than getting presents. Advent is a time of hope, peace, joy, and love. While we are wait for the birth of Jesus, we can grow in faith and patience.
Archdiocese Safe Environment Protocols
In the month of November, our Faith Formation programs will be going over some safe environment and boundary topics with our students. Each program coordinator will provide you with more information on specifics.

Safety Procedures
The safety of our students, families, volunteers, and staff is a top priority for our Faith Formation Ministry. It is important to us that parents feel comfortable and confident while their children attend classes at SEAS. We take several steps to ensure we are providing a safe environment for all.
Each of our volunteers and all of the staff are required to take Safe Environment Trainings. Our Good Shepherd and Elementary students must be picked up from their classroom to guarantee that they leave with a trusted adult. You will also notice that we have a police officer on site during each class session.
To help with safety measures, we ask that parents read the below handbook provided by the Archdiocese of San Antonio.
