Dear Christ the King School Families,

Happy November, and its brutal temperatures!! I jest, but I have felt the temperatures to be quite chilly this week.

Regardless, many activities, events, and lessons occurred throughout the week, and I hope I adequately name at least a few of them.

On Monday, Mr. Kellogg’s Social Studies classes were able to engage with a Giant Map of Lake Champlain. This map took up much of the floor of the gym and was sponsored by the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum. The 6th and 7th Grade students used this map to review their skills in finding longitude and latitude. The 8th Grade students were able to take a guided tour of the Battle of Valcour Island in Lake Champlain and to consider how this naval battle changed the course of the American Revolution. Additionally, 8th Grade students were able to touch various sized cannon balls, actual historical artifacts. All in all, this activity allowed students to gain a better, hands-on understanding of American history. We are all grateful for the grant funding that has supported this project as it travels throughout the state of Vermont.

Additionally, on Monday, the school was graced with the presence of an actual fire truck from the local fire department. Students from many classes braved the rain and cold to walk around the fire truck and see this gigantic vehicle parked in our upper lot. Students were given hats as souvenirs, and we are all so appreciative of the time and commitment provided by the fire department.

Our Wednesday consisted of our Halloween parade and Trunk or Treat - what a success!! I am so happy Mr. Hughes contacted the local news to cover this event! Once again, the CKS school community worked together to provide a memory (and create a yearly tradition) that will be held in the hearts of our students.

On Friday, Mrs. Culupa’s Kindergarten class ventured to the Shelburne Farms, visiting animals, making candles, exploring the area, and many other activities. A great success, and again, CKS is so grateful for all parents and volunteers.

Additionally, on Friday, Father Justin offered a 24-hour Adoration. Any time spent in front of the Lord is priceless and will only help one gain peace of mind and soul.

Finally, the Super Raffle drawing will occur on Saturday with an ice cream social following. I am extremely excited to see the winners announced, and again, CKS is so very appreciative of the generosity of its community.

Again, a gentle reminder to please take care of yourselves; cold/flu season is upon us, and we want everyone to be healthy.

Are you a mom seeking a joyful, welcoming, and light-hearted space to connect with others while deepening your spiritual journey towards God?

Experience a stimulating blend of spirituality and connection in our warm and welcoming online group. We meet just once a month, making it easy to fit into your busy schedule. We are a dozen mothers from local Catholic schools, mainly from CKS. We meet and read, share and discuss how episodes of the life of Jesus continue to resonate in our busy modern lives, allowing us to meet God’s Love. Guided by the wise and loving Sister Paul Mary, a wonderful muffin making Franciscan sister working at the UVM Catholic center -who sometimes fills in as our mother: We pray. We laugh. We cry. We talk. We bond. Wherever you are on your Faith journey, no comment or question is too silly for us to explore.

We also get our families together for a potluck (in person) every 6 weeks during the school year to share our enthusiasm with our other family members -and make the winter warmer. Occasionally we meet for coffee or drinks. Most of us are from out-of-state and have discovered here a family away from home. We would love to expand our family and welcome you if you feel called to join.

Student safety is our top concern throughout the entire day, starting with arrival. Please note these reminders and follow all procedures to ensure the safety of all students.

• Don’t allow children to exit vehicles until a CKS member of the faculty/staff is present
• Reminder for parking in the morning - Parents cannot park in the upper parking lot when dropping off their children for safety reasons
• No Parking in the middle parking lot at drop off or dismissal
• If you need to park to drop off your child, use the lower parking lot
• Please drive very slowly in drop off lane and be extremely careful when pulling out of the line

It's time for our annual Thanksgiving Basket project with the parish. We are working to provide 60 baskets and turkeys to families in need. We are collecting the following items now through November 20th. Donations can be left in the blue bins at the entrances to the churches. Want us to do your shopping? Put a donation in an envelope marked Thanksgiving in the collection basket.

Thank you to all the donations we received the other week. We will be collecting cans and bottles each month so keep saving them. Stay tune for our November date.

To celebrate All Saints' Day this past Wednesday, Third graders were treated to a guest speaker, Mrs. Victoria Jones, who taught them all about God's love for them, and his desire that they all become saints. Students received cross necklaces, rings, and special medallions all the way from France. The room was decorated to represent Heaven, and we all got a great reminder of God's incredible love for each of us. Many thanks to Mrs.Jones and Mrs. Bounds for making us feel so special and teaching us so much!

-- Classroom Helpers – Periodically, teachers may reach out to ask for help in their classrooms and this counts towards your hour’s requirement.

- Chaperoning Field Trips - If you are going to drive students for field trips, you must complete VIRTUS and the attached form. You can count the completion of VIRTUS as one hour of volunteering

- Attend a PTO meetin

-Doing extra lunchroom duties

- Contribute in your own way! If you have an idea that isn’t listed above or in the link of opportunities, please reach out! We are always excited by the possibility of new partnerships and volunteering opportunities!

Students need to remember to bring their water bottles to school each day; in an effort to live our mission at Christ the King, and to be stewards of the Earth, we will no longer be ordering plastic cups to be used at lunch after this last purchase.

We have lots of items in the shop for the whole family to get ready for fall. We are taking donations of lightly used and and clean winter items.

We need help. Do you have a few free hours a week? We are looking for Volunteers to help out at the shop selling and sorting. Contact the parish office if interested.
