Message from Mrs. Phelan
Greetings,
Gratitude is happiness doubled by the joy of knowing you have something or someone to be thankful for. That is a perfect reflection of what I'm experiencing this year at Lowell. Every day, I am moved and inspired by what I see. Every day, I marvel at the incredible devotion of our staff and their unique ability to teach and inspire our children. Every day, I celebrate the amazing support of our parents and community.
I believe that the success of our school is built on a foundation of inclusiveness. Every day, dedicated teachers and staff work to create a community filled with caring and kindness. Focused on the goal of providing a safe learning environment for our students and families.
I am thankful that Lowell continues to strive for excellence in each and every classroom, to grow stronger by our diversity, and to cultivate an open and positive school climate.
During this time of Thanksgiving, I want to share my gratitude and thank you for being such an important part of our children’s lives. This is a wonderful time of the year to get together with friends and family to celebrate and be thankful for all the wonderful people in our lives. On behalf of the Lowell staff, I would like to thank you for your continued support and wish you all a safe and happy holiday. We will see everyone back here on November 28th.
With a grateful heart,
Mrs. Phelan
Getting Ready for Winter
Here at the Lowell we love our time outdoors even when it's cold. We will miss our days sledding on the Lowell hill at recess this winter. .
Unless it's pouring rain or the windchill factor gets near zero we take students outside for recess. Please begin sending your child to school with a hat, gloves or mittens, scarf, snow boots, a heavy coat and snow pants. Students typically bring an additional bag to school with all their winter gear. Keeping a separate bags sometimes helps them and you to organize the gear into one space.
If you are find your child is in need of any winter clothing please contact our school nurse or guidance counselor. We want to make sure you have what you need this winter to stay warm.
Sometimes we need to call indoor recess. This decision is made by the three elementary nurses. We do our best to calibrate indoor recess across all three elementary schools.

i -Ready Diagnostic
Kindergarten students are preparing to take the i-Ready Diagnostic. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your child’s needs. Each item a student receives is based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly more complex questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier ones.
Our students will begin taking the i-Ready Diagnostic according to the schedule posted below.
i-Ready Diagnostic Schedule
Kindergarten students will take the i-Ready Diagnostic for the first time beginning on the week of December 12 (reading) and the week of December 19 (math).
i-Ready Diagnostic for grades 1-5:
Week of - 12/12(reading)
Week of - 12/19 (math)
What can I do to help?
To help prepare your child for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:
· Get a good night’s sleep and eat a full breakfast the day of the assessment.
· Try your best on each question and try not to rush.
· Try not to worry about questions they do not know—remind them that it is
expected they will get only about half of the questions correct.
· Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish.
Thank you for your continued support and for being a partner in your child’s learning! You can also learn more about i-Ready by visiting i-ReadyCentral.com/FamilyCenter.
