CMS students and families will be using the Aspen Information System soon to check grades, verify attendance and communicate with CMS.

The Aspen Student Information System (SIS) is a centralized platform for hosting and managing student data. Aspen SIS safely and securely stores data like class schedules, student performance, attendance, grades and much more. Aspen thus eliminates the need for multiple databases and streamlines the process of reporting student data, creating instructional plans, and applying state-specific guidelines.

When we roll out Aspen at CMS, students will be given login credentials and supported in logging and changing their passwords. Students will be instructed to record their passwords in a safe location and transmit their login to parents.

Parents will receive an email from Dr. Sullivan next week discussing the roll out and when it will happen. We will be scheduling training sessions for parents in the coming weeks in order to get the most out of this great tool!

Teach Resilience, Perseverance, and Grit

Research from the field of positive psychology tells us what successful people look like. They have self-control and communicate their feelings respectfully. They’ve learned know how to be a team player and have a strong work ethic. Most importantly, they show resilience, perseverance, and grit. Successful people know how to completely crash and get right back up. They are optimistic and experience joy and gratitude. These are traits we know that kids need in order to succeed. Truthfully, shielding your child from rejection, disappointment, and failure will never teach those traits.

Just a reminder that attendance is a critical part of academic success. .

At CMS we recognize that the maximum educational benefits to the students and the community can be attained only if students attend school daily. We understand that the classroom experience cannot be replicated, and we believe that students being present and on time each day is essential to school success.

Consequences

When students are tardy to school three (3) times they will receive a warning. Upon their fifth (5) tardy, an after school detention will be assigned. This will occur for each one thereafter. A student who is tardy to school ten (10 times will be assigned a 3-hour Saturday detention.

CMS is part of a bustling school campus we share with CHS and the CPS district offices. At dismissal and at morning drop off, there are lots of students and parents attempting to safely navigate on and off campus.

We remind all members of our community to help us to be good neighbors by respecting the rights of our neighbors. Please avoid driving onto private property whether turning around or waiting in your car for your student.

CMS faculty joined with the high school faculty for a training on safety protocols and reacting to crises. The training was provided by CPD Sgt.-Det. Lopes and School Resource Officer Taylor during the September 27th Early Release.

Alice: What an idea. A crazy, mad, wonderful idea.

We are excited to announce that the Cohasset Middle School musical this fall will be Alice in Wonderland, Jr. This is a stage adaption of the 1951 musical. This week auditions and callbacks were held and today the cast was announced. We look forward to another amazing musical production performed by our students. #proudtobecms

Important Dates

• Rehearsals will be Monday - Thursday from 2:15 - 3:30.
• Participant may not need to attend every rehearsal (We will do our best to communicate rehearsal schedules well in advance.)
• November 11-13: 2:30-4:15PM (Full cast and crew)
• November 14 & 15: Call at 5PM and Show at 7:00PM
