Principal's Message 5.13.22
We have had another busy and fun week at Lake Grove! As the end of the school year approaches, we are finding more ways to cooperate, learn, and play together.
We hope that all our current and incoming families will stop by and join us on Monday evening for the Ice Cream Social anytime between 5:30-7:00. There will be an ice cream truck, a STEM bubble-making station, some fitness activities in the gym, and story time in the library. If you're here at 5:45 and/or 6:45 you'll be able to join us in singing the Lake Grove song. It will be wonderful to be together. Families should plan to stay together as they travel through the event.
Be well,
Principal Jennie Knapp
SEL Theme for May: Cooperation
During May, we will work together to practice the character trait of COOPERATION in our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) lessons, classrooms, and throughout our school.
As a school community, we will be examining how Cooperation looks, sounds, and feels. Cooperation is about assistance, support, collaboration, & teamwork. It is a necessary tool in our toolbox for creating a community that cares for one another.
Students will be encouraged to use cooperation skills such as communication, self-awareness, and the ability to step up (or step back) when the time is right to best support whatever group you are working with. Using these skills will help us to work alongside one another and create things, together, that are better than anything we could create on our own.

The show is roughly 20 minutes in length, and families are welcome to eat lunch with their student(s) afterward. Please reach out to the music teacher, Ms. Hotz, with any questions. We look forward to seeing you there!

State Assessment Score Reports
This summer, LOSD will deliver students’ state assessment results online through ParentVUE rather than mailing paper. This is in keeping with the district’s strategic goal of sustainability and mirrors how we deliver report cards. Your child’s assessment reports will appear on your ParentVUE Documents page in late July. As you review your student’s English Language Arts, math, and science scores, please keep in mind:
- An achievement level of 3 or 4 is considered to be on track for the student’s grade level.
- Scores on state assessments are only one measure of a student’s academic progress. We use these scores in conjunction with classroom work and other daily, weekly, monthly, and term assessments to understand your student’s strengths and areas for improvement.
Time to Verify Your Student's Information
Beginning April 29, LOSD needs parents/guardians of all students enrolled for the 2022-23 school year to log into ParentVUE and review/update your students' information through the Register/Verify tab. This benefits both families and schools by:
- Ensuring that schools have accurate information to reach parents and other contacts in both emergency and non-emergency situations. Verification is important even if your address or contact information has not changed over the past year because the school may have incorrect information from a previous year.
- Confirming parent email addresses for Google Classroom and other applications to participate in your student's learning.
- Enabling distribution of key information in the district's K-12 Family Handbook.
All library books due May 31
Spring seems to have finally arrived! It is time for library books to make their way back to Lake Grove. Be on the lookout for emails with books that are checked out to your student. You can return library books at any time during regular school hours. All library books are due back by the end of this month.
i-Ready Spring Assessment
Soon, elementary students in Lake Oswego will complete two online i-Ready assessments in class. One is for math and the other is for reading. As you know, i-Ready is a program that helps us determine your child’s strengths and areas for future growth. This is the third of three i-Ready diagnostic assessments we give each year, and the results will be shared with parents before the summer break. For kindergartners, this will be their second i-Ready assessment.
Attendance Reminders & Early Pick-ups
If you need to pick your child up early for an appointment, please be sure to bring your ID in to the office to sign them out.

CALLING ALL LAKE GROVE VOLUNTEERS ’22-23
The Lake Grove PTA is a group of parents, teachers and staff working together to enrich the student experience at our elementary school. We are currently recruiting volunteers to serve on our board of directors during the 2022-23 school year. As a member of the PTA board, you will help students become more engaged in the school and the greater community where we live, as well as develop new experiences and enrichment opportunities for our students. To learn more about service on our board or just hear about volunteer opportunities with the PTA, contact our nominating committee member, Katie Gootee by email Kgootee@genevafi.com or by phone 907-350-2907.
COME OUT AND PLAY WITH US!
The Lake Grove PTA is welcoming families to the playground on SUNDAY, MAY 22 FROM 3-5 PM. If you're an incoming Oak Creek family impacted by the boundary changes or you have kids coming to Lake Grove next fall, please come out and enjoy our school grounds at an informal playtime. PTA volunteers with kids attending Lake Grove will be on hand for questions about our school. Siblings welcome.
BECOME A BUSINESS SPONSOR AT LAKE GROVE
Sponsoring our Lake Grove PTA gives local businesses an opportunity to reach approximately 300-400 families through banner advertising on the school/field perimeter fencing, which faces the highly trafficked Boones Ferry Rd. Our PTA sponsors student enrichment programs like Art Literacy, Battle of the Books, Run Club, Culture Travel, book exchanges, field trips, classroom equipment and much more. To help us continue this work, review the business sponsor opportunities attached and join us! NOTE: the deadline has been extended to June 1!
WELCOME OAK CREEK FAMILIES!
Hello and welcome to the Lake Grove community! On behalf of our school community, our PTA is excited to see several Oak Creek families join our school in the Fall. We look forward to meeting you at one of the upcoming events at Lake Grove this Spring.
Several Lake Grove families have offered to be resources for Oak Creek families this Spring as you change schools—it’s a 21st century welcome committee! These families can help answer your questions about Lake Grove and ease your transition. Safe Oregon
Parents-guardians who have concerns about a student’s well-being are encouraged to reach out to their principal, and to maintain strong lines of communication and partnership between students, families, staff, and other resources.
SafeOregon is also an effective way to report a tip regarding safety threats or potential acts of violence to our students or schools.
(Students should also be aware that intentionally providing a false report is a serious offense.)
