Special Education Scoop
February 2023
Welcome to the February Scoop!
Welcome to the middle of our Michigan winter season. I hope that everyone is doing their best to keep warm and healthy!
Something that always warms my heart is learning of former student's successes. Whenever someone reaches out to me about a former student to update me on his or her success, it makes me feel like we have made a positive impact on their life. This week Angela Beauchamp reached out to me with an update on Robin Wilson, a student we both had in class years ago. She is doing fantastic and has definitely become a valuable member of the community. If you have a moment take a look at her website and learn a little more about this awesome JGHS graduate. It will warm your heart and remind you of why we love working with students.

Have a great day and keep up the hard work!

Extended School Year
Please review your student data to determine the need for an extended school year.
If it is determined a specific student requires ESY- complete an amendment no later than April.
This does not apply to students in the SXI or SCI program.
Please review the attached procedures.
Further guidance can be found behind the Staff Door: https://www.wwcsd.net/staff-door/curriculum-instruction--assessments/special-education/
IEP Completion Reminder
All annual IEPs are to be completed 30 days in advance of their due date. This is the expectation.
If there is a 3-Year/REED date that precedes the annual, then you must complete both in advance of the 3-year date.
Three-Year Reevaluation Process
As shared earlier this year, we will no longer waive testing more than one three-year cycle. Please review the updated reevaluation process for the district. Please review this as a team during your department time. Thank you to the committed staff who have supported this work.
