Principal's Message
Hello Springwater Community,
Thank you to all the families and students who attended conferences the week of Thanksgiving! As we embark on these final weeks of the semester, it is critical for students to work closely with their teachers to get caught up on assignments and get additional support if they are struggling with their classes. December school days are over and January will fly by as well.
As a reminder, we have academic support Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 2:30pm - 3:30pm. Students can sign up for a bus ride home after the academic support. In addition to academic support, there are also a variety of clubs that meet after school. Some clubs also meet during lunch. See the list of clubs, and when they meet, in this issue of Titan Times.
Springwater students continue to explore and experience the world outside of STHS: this week Ms. Vogl visited Job Corps with a group of seniors and their parents while Ms. Jeffries' second year Spanish students attended the Spanish play, A Christmas Cuento Remix at El Milagro Theatre in downtown Portland. In January, some of Ms. Kruse's art classes will explore All Things Being Equal, an exhibit at the Portland Art Museum.
This time of year, with the short days, can take a toll on student attendance. Please remember: we expect students to be at school every day. Of course, if students are sick they should stay home and get better. There have been numerous studies over the years demonstrating the critical link between school attendance, graduation, and student success after high school (whether it be holding down a job or completing college). We are here to support our students and families. We will continue to problem-solve with students and families if attendance drops below 90%.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to your student’s teachers, the main office, or me by phone or email if you have questions or concerns.
Enjoy the winter break,
Ryan Blaszak

Springwater Attendance
If your son/daughter is going to be out for the day please call the office (503-261-4600) and let us know the reason why. Whenever the office is not notified of an absence, a call is made home via the automated calling system. If the student is going to be out more than three days, you can call the office or email your student's teachers with a request for homework. If your student is going to be out of school for extended period of time due to a vacation or some other event, please have him/her complete a Pre-arranged Absence Form. If your student needs to leave school early or arrive late due to appointments, please call the office or send a note to excuse their absence.
