GMS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 15, 2023
Good Afternoon Wolf Pack Families,
I am so impressed with our students! They really gave their best effort on our iReady Math and ELA assessments this week. Many students approached me throughout the last few days to tell me how much they improved between iReady Diagnostic 1 and Diagnostic 2. Results will be sent home from our teachers in early January. It is never too early to have students begin working on iReady lessons in both subjects. In January, we will begin a rewards program for students who meet certain thresholds in successful completion of iReady lessons. We are all excited to introduce this program to our Wolf Pack Community. More details to come next week!
Wishing all of our Wolf Pack Community a fantastic weekend!
Sincerely,
Stuart Riley
Principal, Geisler Middle School

Girls Get IT Club
GMS has a great opportunity for our girls to become involved in an after school Technology Club! The Girls Get IT teaches students coding, website design and other technology skills. The program is run by WL Western students. May of these students were former GMS students and we are grateful for them volunteering their time and expertise. The 2nd meeting is on Tuesday January 9 from 3:10-4:10 PM. New members are more than welcome to join. Thank you Mrs. Frost for sponsoring this club. See the attachments for more details.
Civics Competition
The Chaldean Community Foundation and the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce are partnering with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and Michigan Chamber of Commerce to host a first-of-its-kind civics competition that encourages young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities.
Participating 6th, 7th and 8th graders will flex their civics knowledge for a chance to win recognition and cash prizes. Finalists will be invited to Washington, D.C. to compete in the inaugural National Civics Bee national championship in Fall 2024. Please see the attachments for more details.
Sports Update
GMS Boys Basketball season is coming to an end. The LVC playoff game for 6th and 7th grade boys is on Monday at Smart at 4:00 PM. We are proud of both of our basketball teams for their hard work on the court and in the classroom. Thank you to Coach Penrod and Coach Meyer for working with the boys this season.
Girls basketball will begin January 8th. Permission slips and flyers are available for students to pick up in the counseling office.
Students must have physical on file dated after April 15th 2023 in order to try out and participate. These forms can also be picked up in the counseling office.

Weekend Food Program-Hospitality House
Supporting and caring for our students in any way possible is our mission at GMS. Geisler MS recently partnered with Hospitality House Food Pantry in Walled Lake to bring the Weekend Food Program to our students. If you are a family that could use a little extra help with meals on the weekends, please let your child’s counselor know. Your child’s name will be held confidential. The Weekend Food Program would provide approximately 6 meals and snacks for your student on the weekend. The food would be distributed to your student in a discreet bag or backpack for them to take home each Friday. There is no cost to participate in the program. To optimize a student’s success at school starts with students having enough to eat. Please see the attached flyer for more information about the Weekend Food Program. If you are interested in having your student participate, please contact your student’s counselor Ann Marie Rutherford (Counselor for 6th Grade Students (A-L) and ALL 8th Grade Students) annmarierutherford@wlcsd.org or 248-956-2917 or Amanda Hart (6th Grade Students (M-Z) and ALL 7th Grade Students) amandahart@wlcsd.org or 248-956-2916.
