Term 4 Issue 37 2nd November 2023
ALL SAINTS DAY 1 NOV
ALL SOULS DAY 2 NOV
NOONGAR SEASON OF KAMBARANG (OCT-NOV)
PRINCIPAL'S POST
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
Today is All Souls Day, the day following All Saints Day. Yesterday, Father Darek celebrated mass with our children as we remembered all the Saints and martyrs in our Christian faith. Today, All Souls Day is an opportunity for us to commemorate and remember all those who have passed. In Roman Catholicism, November is traditionally a month of remembrance of the dead. While All Saints and All Souls Day are no longer holy days of obligation in Australia, the Church encourages prayers for the faithful departed and, in some parishes, names of those who have passed are often placed in the Church so the parish community can remember them in prayer.
MAKE A MOVE DANCE LESSONS
As part of the curriculum, Dance is taught as part of the Learning Area of Arts. This term we are fortunate to have Make A Move Performance Program guiding and scaffolding our children to choreograph small group and a class performance. This will culminate in our annual Christmas Concert being a celebration of the children's collaboration and creativity.
COLOUR-A-THON COLOUR EXPLOSION - FRI 3rd NOV
Tomorrow, our children will participate in the annual Colour Run from 1:45pm. This year, our P&F have partnered with Australian Fundraising to be able to provide prizes for our children as they raise money for the P&F Contribution to the K/PP Bike track and Year 5/6 Nature Play. A reminder that any child who raises $10 receives a prize whilst children who raise $20 or more go into the draw to 'SLIME A TEACHER' on the last day of school! If you haven't created a fundraising account as yet, it's not too late and you can do so before midnight tomorrow. Thank you to our parent volunteers and the P&F for their work on the Colour Run as we are confident it will be a great fundraising initiative in 2023. To create an account before tomorrow, go to:
www.australianfundraising.com.au
*Children are allowed to wear their white tshirts to school but please ensure you have a change of shirt or towels to cover your car seats on the way home!
INSTRUMENTAL SCHOLARSHIPS 2024 - YEAR 3-6
A reminder that applications close for the 2x Instrumental Scholarships in 2024 on November 10th. The scholarships are funded by both Polygon Music and SFOA and aim to support families in financial distress whose child would like to learn an instrument. Should you be interested, please complete the attached application form and return to Mr Cunniffe at mark.cunniffe@cewa.edu.au
ANNUAL COMMUNITY MEETING - NOV 21st (3:30pm)
A reminder that our Annual Community Meeting of the School Advisory Council and Parents & Friends association will take place on Tuesday 21st November from 3:30 - 4:30pm. The meeting will be streamed and will outline a review of 2023 for both groups. Staffing for 2024 will also be announced along with school fees and our financial position.
LOCAVORA LUNCH ORDERS 2024
If you are yet to do so, please create an account with Locavora to enable your child to order lunches from Monday - Thursday in 2024. Parents can setup their account this year and add credit through the My Wallet feature and the attachment below explains this process. A further reminder will be sent home later this term and early next year.
*PLEASE DO NOT PLACE ANY ORDERS IN 2023 AS THESE WILL NOT BE FILLED!

COVERED AREA, DECKS & BAG RACKS TO YEAR 1/2
We are pleased to have completed all works in the covered area so that 1B, 1W, 2B, 2W all have bag racks and can access the classroom from the covered side. The final decking platforms were completed to an outstanding standard by Custom Carpentry (Mr Hughes) and the area is now very functional for all of our children. Aside from being a wonderful use of space, it is also an outstanding area aesthetically thanks to Mr Hughes' keen eye for design and his ongoing quest for perfection! We are very fortunate to have a Head Groundsman that not only has the skills and expertise to complete such projects, but also the pride in his work and care for the children to ensure the best outcome is always reached for the benefit of the wider community. We are considering renaming the area the 'Hughes Pavilion' and erecting a statue!
The term really is flying by and we will be in the thick of Christmas before we know it. This is a great opportunity to stop and be present. I know I am often guilty of looking too far ahead, so I am making a conscious effort to just enjoy the amazing school community we have and all that is being achieved by our children and staff.
Enjoy the forecasted hot weather and the fortnight ahead.
Best wishes

CHRISTMAS HAMPER APPEAL 2024
It's that time of year again, when we come together as a school community to assist other families in our parish to enjoy and experience Christmas. Our annual Christmas Hamper Appeal for St Vincent de Paul will begin in Week 6 - Monday 13th November and will continue to Monday 4th December. Please keep reading the newsletter & check seesaw for details.
ALL SAINTS DAY
Yesterday was the solemnity of All Saints, and we acknowledged the good work of the saints during Mass in the afternoon as a school. Thank you to the Year 1 classes who prepared the Mass so beautifully, read amazingly and sang like angels!
Every year on November 1, Catholics and other Christians around the world observe All Saints Day, which honours all saints of the church deemed to have attained heaven. These include all known and unknown saints. It is a special feast called a solemnity and is based in the belief that the world is spiritually connected to heaven. All Saints' Day is considered a holy day of obligation.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Congratulations to our very own Darliah Windeatt who competed in her Gymnastics Championship recently. Darliah placed 3rd winning her a bronze which is an amazing result considering she spent the whole day competing for SFOA at the Interschool Athletics Carnival. Great job, Darliah!

P&F NEWS
The P & F have had a great start to term 4 with a couple of awesome events. On Friday 21st of October, we had our first ever Paint and Sip night. What an artistic and talented group of parents we have. The creativity and drinks flowed and we raised just over $2000 for the school.
This Friday, we have our annual colour run. Parents will have up to 11:59 pm, Friday night, to get those donations in. Don't forget to wear white on Friday, ready for the colourful afternoon. Parents, don't forget the towels for the cars!
On Wednesday, we had our final pizza lunch for the year. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped with organising the pizza, and delivering it to the classrooms.
