Summer Update

RamPathways (21st CCLC Grant)

As you may recall, RamPathways is a federally-funded program aiming to establish community learning centers that offer various programs for students and their families. These centers aim to enhance students' academic performance by providing tutoring and other enriching activities in addition to their regular academic curriculum. The programs offered at these centers are designed to help students meet state and local academic standards in subjects like English language arts and math. Moreover, the centers extend their support to the families of participating students by providing literacy and other educational services. As well, students participate in various enrichment activities throughout the Summer.

West Hempstead Rising Star Special Education Program

The West Hempstead Rising Star Program is located at Chestnut Street and runs from July 10 through August 18. Students recommended for the twelve-month Special Class are eligible to participate in our Rising Star program. This program is specifically tailored to assist students in achieving their IEP goals while offering enriching activities for a fun and rewarding summer experience. Moreover, students with Related Service recommendations and the Special Class will receive these services as part of their program. It's important to note that the Rising Star program sets itself apart from general education summer programs, as it is uniquely designed to cater to students with Special Class recommendations and provide the necessary IEP-prescribed support.

Uni-vent work at the Secondary School

At our secondary school, strides are being made through implementing uni-vent replacements, a transformative initiative made possible by a federal grant. This innovative project aims to create a healthier school environment by enhancing the ventilation and air quality within the premises. The work involves installing state-of-the-art ventilation systems, ensuring a continuous fresh air flow throughout the classrooms. The uni-vent project prioritizes the well-being of our students and staff and seeks to bolster academic performance by fostering a comfortable and conducive learning atmosphere. With improved air quality, we are confident this endeavor will contribute significantly to our school community's overall well-being and success.

Summer Work

Our school's Facilities and Grounds crew is showcasing their dedication and expertise this summer, undertaking various projects to enhance our campus. From diligently replacing broken sprinklers to ensure lush and vibrant lawns to skillfully painting and refurbishing various areas, they revitalize the entire school grounds. Notably, they are constructing new walls to redefine spaces and add an aesthetic touch to our environment. Furthermore, we are thrilled to witness the recreation of an entranceway designed for our preschool, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for our youngest learners and their families. Our grounds crew continues to maintain and upgrade our facilities. They created planter boxes for our young learners to grow sunflowers, plants, and vegetables. The exceptional work accomplished by the Facilities and Grounds crew is setting a high standard for the school's physical appearance, enhancing the overall learning experience for our students, and fostering a sense of pride within our school community.
