Daniel Wright
8th-Grade Placement Exams
Hello Eighth-Grade Students and Families,
We are working in cooperation with Adlai E. Stevenson High School to plan for student placement in English, mathematics, and Spanish for our current eighth-grade students.
Initial English placement will be determined using a winter MAP Reading score and teacher recommendation. Mathematics placement will be determined by common assessments given throughout the eighth-grade school year across all Adlai E. Stevenson consortium districts. Students typically move on to the next course in their academic progression unless parents have been contacted by the teacher or school.
Daniel Wright will administer both the Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL) in Spanish and the NWEA Reading MAP test.
Students do not need to seek outside tutoring or other special help to prepare for the Spanish exams or MAP tests. The Stevenson faculty and our eighth-grade teachers collaborate regularly to discuss exam content and appropriate placement. All of the eighth-grade teachers at Daniel Wright are aware of the content expectations on the Spanish benchmark exams and work to align curriculum and instruction to these learning expectations in Spanish, English, and mathematics.
As with any assessment, it is important for students to have a good night's sleep and eat a healthy meal prior to testing. Also, we ask that you do not schedule appointments that will interfere with the testing times or dates.
For more information about the benchmark exams, please visit the Stevenson High School website or contact Stevenson’s Office of Teaching and Learning at 847-415-4200.
