Regional Apprenticeship Program hosts SkillsUSA Competition
Recently, the Regional Apprenticeship Pathways (RAP) program at Marysville Pilchuck hosted its first SkillsUSA competition on electrical wiring! Students from around the region individually completed an assessment and an electrical wiring plan that included installing an outlet, switch, and outdoor light. Their work will be scored by professional electricians, and qualifying students will move on to the Washington State SkillsUSA competition.
Marysville Cooperative Education Program 1st graders visit the Police Department
What an exciting day for Ms. Perdue's 1st grade MCEP class! The class got to meet a K-9 and got a tour of the police department, including checking out a few vehicles. Thank you to the Marysville Police Department for hosting the class and providing this awesome experience for our students.
Recent cold weather brought challenges, but the MSD crews saved the day!
While the recent frigid temperatures caused pipes to burst forcing many surrounding school districts to cancel school, our Marysville School District custodians, facilities, and maintenance crews worked tirelessly over the long weekend to address issues as they came up resulting in the ability for Marysville to hold school as normal. Our schools did not go unscathed however. Across the district, some of our schools experienced sprinkler pipe breaks, heating coil freezes and leaks, boiler line breaks and shutdowns, to name a few. These were especially common at the older schools.
The quick work of the district's staff ensured that issued were addressed, clean up was done, and our schools were ready for students. Greg Dennis, Facilities and Maintenance Director, shares a big thank you to the following custodial, facilities, and maintenance staff for going above and beyond to take care of our schools:
Custodians Chona Dormaier, Karla Shields, Natasha Stefoglo, Inna Grishkova, Rob Willmaser, Matt Sturgis, Lary Cuaresma, and Blake Jacobson who helped to clean up water damage and move teachers. Maintenance Technicians Rich Green, Brian Schimke, Mike Kirby, and Lonnie Jacobson inspected every water pipe, faucet, toilet, sink in every building. They shut off and isolated water valves and attended to boilers to keep heat in our buildings. Jim Long, Custodial Supervisor, for being onsite long days coordinating the teacher moves, coordinating schedules for custodians and the contractor for the clean up effort. We also want to recognize Greg Dennis, Facilities and Maintenance Director, for his oversight of all of the issues brought on by the freezing temperatures.
