Weekly Updates 8/29 - 9/2
Greetings Lemira Family:
Welcome to week three! This year, we will continue to "Lead and Learn with Intention and Optimism as we Nurture the Success of all Students", for we are the L.I.O.N.S. Our mission is to motivate, inspire, and educate all students to be college and career ready.
Updates:
1. Labor Day: There will be no school Monday, September 5th due to the Labor Day Holiday. Classes will resume Tuesday, September 6th at 7:30am.
2. We will host our Open House on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 (Drop In 6:00pm - 7:30pm). Parents are welcomed to meet their learner's classroom teacher and learn about classroom expectations. During this time, teachers will be signing parents up for their upcoming parent interim conferences, as well.
3. We will host our Title One "Fall Parent University" on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 (6:00pm - 7:30pm). Various topics such as how to access live grades through Parent Portal, AVID 101, how to help my learner stay organized, etc. will be presented in rotating sessions. Please join us as you learn the essentials to help your learner navigate the 22-23 school year.
4. Instructional Coach Corner:

5. Reading Interventionist Corner:
A child’s success as a reader begins as early as his or her infant stage. Reading, and a love for reading, begins at home. This year I will be sharing tips for parents and guardians to help foster their child reading development.
Tip 1: Talk to your child about the books he or she likes to read. It's always good for children to see that you are interested in what they enjoy, especially when it comes to reading.
Book of the Month: "The Day You Begin" by Jacqueline Woodson.
6. Counselor's Corner: Meet your Child’s Friends
Getting to know your child’s friends can be an important parenting tool. Children, often times, emulate the actions of their friends for acceptance. The better you know what your child’s peers are up to, the better you’ll know your child. Open your home to allow visits by friends, if allowed by you and the parents of friends. Kids can munch on snacks and play while you supervise. You’ll be amazed at how much you'll learn.
7. Drop Off and Pick Up Procedures Reminders:
Drop off:
* Just a reminder, instruction begins daily at 7:30am. Gates will open at 6:50am.
* If a student arrives after 7:30am, the parent is asked to park and sign the student in through the front office.
Pick Up:
* Car RIders will be given tags. Some parents have already picked up their tags during the Bash. Please display your tag number in the window so staff can appropriately match the student to the car tag number.
* For safety reasons and to ensure the flow of traffic, we ask that parents please remain in their cars and drive through the car loop. Please bear with us as the first week of school usually brings about heavy traffic.
* For safety reasons and to ensure the efficiency of our pick up process, parents will not be allowed to walk up to the gate to retrieve a student.
* If you are picking up multiple students and they have a different car number, please have tag for each student present.
8. Breakfast and Lunch will be served daily.
* Due to the federal guidelines covered under "CDC Healthy Schools", students will not be allowed to receive outside food, unless already in their packed in lunch boxes, for lunch. All schools in the Sumter School District will be abiding by the CDC guidelines.
9. Communication Folders: Communication folders will be sent home daily. Please check each day and return. The first day of school, students will bring home the "Student and Parent Handbook", along with several papers to sign. Please sign and return.
10. FERPA Letter: At Lemira, we love to showcase the work and achivements of our students. If you are wishing for your student to not be shown on any social media sites, displayed in our yearbook, etc., a district FERPA letter will come home explaining procedures.
As always, we look forward to our continued partnership! Together, we will make this the best year ever!
