A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!
AVID Overview
A glimpse into our AVID classrooms
Students were introduced to the 5 learning strategies that will stretch our brains the most in each of our classes - Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading
We discussed why asking questions is so important to the learning process and explored what kind of questions make us think deeply and critically.
Students have routinely practiced using organizational systems such as agendas, folders, and/or binders. Organization is essential!
Students are beginning to explore the ideas of engaging and interacting with their academic notes.
And last but not least, we are dipping our toes in the idea of successfully managing our time!

AVID Strategy of the Month - Focused Note Taking
Process for FNT
1. Take notes: Teacher determines a purpose, selects a format, creates an essential question and notes for students.
2. Process Notes: Students should go back over notes, revise, highlight, etc.
2. Connect Thinking: Students should ask questions, think beyond notes, connect to prior learning.
4. Summarize/Reflect: Students reflect and think about their notes, make a summary of what they've learned.
5. Apply Learning: Students should use notes to review/study.
