EMS Weekly Update

Important Information

There is no school for students on Friday, March 1st as it is a Professional Day for staff.

Monday, February 26th will be a B day.

Parents or guardians of children receiving special education and related services were mailed the Maryland Special Education Parent Involvement Survey from MSDE during the week of February 12, 2024. Parents are asked to complete the survey and return it in the postage-paid envelope by May 24, 2024. The Survey may also be completed online. Parent feedback will help guide efforts to improve special education and related services in SMCPS. To learn more, please visit https://www.mdparentsurvey.com.

Attention parents of 6th grade students: All students entering 7th grade must have documentation of having received a Tdap and a Meningitis (MCV) vaccine before the first day of school. We wanted to make you aware that the St. Mary's County Health Department will be holding an optional immunization clinic for 6th graders at Esperanza Middle School on Monday, April 15th. If your student has not already received these vaccines or the nurses do not have documentation of receiving these vaccines, you will be receiving an email from the nurse(s) with the registration link.

After-school Activities

Monday - James...Jr. (James, Spiker & Sponge), Volleyball Intramural, Symphonic Band (Brass ONLY), and SCA

Tuesday - James...Jr. (All cast), Basketball Intramural, Chess Intramural, Strength and Conditioning, and Symphonic Band (Percussion ONLY)

Wednesday - James...Jr. (Ladahlord), Symphonic Band, Math Counts, Yearbook, and Volleyball

Thursday - James...Jr. (James, Ladahlord, Insects, Spiker & Sponge, Dancers), Basketball, Strength and Conditioning, Chess Intramural, Symphonic Band, and Civil Air Patrol

Summer Sports Academies

SMCPS and SMC R&P have partnered to offer the new Summer Sports Academies. Campers will be instructed by area high school coaches. Camps are held Monday -Thursday. Click below for more information. Registration begins March 1st. Don't miss this opportunity.

Event Information

6th Grade Dance

This dance will take place right after school for 6th-grade students ONLY; students must be picked up at 4:00 p.m. Parents will not need to come inside to pick up students. Students will be released to the parking lot at 4:00 p.m. to go home. The permission slip to attend the dance will be in the March 3rd SMORE and available in the cafeteria starting Monday, March 3rd. The cost to attend the dance is $5.00. Students must have their $5.00 and signed permission slip during homeroom on Friday, March 8th, to get their dance wristband. No dance wristbands will be sold after homeroom, and no students can call home to get permission to attend the dance.

The next 8th grade dance will be the 8th grade formal. More information to come on this event and other end of year celebrations on Tuesday, April 2, 2024.
