Northrop Update
December 2023
Dear Northrop Families,
Over the next few months, I will be including levy updates in our family communications. This is such a fun time of year in the building and I wanted to provide more frequent updates to share some of the great things happening in the building. It reminds us that we have so much to be grateful for! There is a lot of hope for our school community moving forward; however, we are also at a pivotal point for the District with the failure of the November bond issue and operating levy.
As I'm sure you're now aware, the Board of Education has made the decision to place a 7.5-mill continuous operating levy on the March 19, 2024 ballot, which will generate approximately $14 million annually. This operating levy has nothing to do with facilities, but rather supports the current staffing and programming that we already have in place.
I want to make sure that everyone has clarity on the levy as we move forward, so I will provide further objective information regarding the March operating levy in the future. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions or want to know more!
Mrs. Dodez

4th Grade Fun in Maker Lab!
Mr. Lempner's class took an opportunity to visit the Maker Lab and show their learning from their matter unit with different materials. Giving students a choice in showing their learning led to an increase in focus and students being really engaged! Learning can be so much fun!
Water Awareness Week was a HUGE Success!
Thank you so much families, students, and staff for supporting our initiative to "Save the Seas!" Thanks to your generosity, the 5th graders were able to raise $400 which will be donated to the Alliance for the Great Lakes. We had a great week of fun and learning, and students were able to learn first- hand the positive effects of raising awareness!
5th graders went to the Maker Lab and came up with some really cool inventions to clean up the seas and conserve water, using the research they have been doing the last 2 months. See below for a beach water fountain (super innovative) and a foldable farm plow/water system.
2nd Grade Measurement
As part of their math work, 2nd graders used their own feet and then a standard sized foot to measure objects they see in the classroom each day. The goal of the learning is to understand why measurement is important, how to use measurement tools correctly, and how precision in this work matters!
