Free Lunch
Central Emerson Elementary is participating in a federal program called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). This program will allow all Central Emerson Elementary students (K-6) to eat for free/no charge in the 2022-2023 school year. This program will be effective on the first day of school – Wednesday, September 7, 2022 – meaning all of our students will be able to have breakfast and lunch free at Central Emerson Elementary this school year. CEP is a federal program available to select schools as a part of the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program. Central Emerson Elementary is the only school in our district that meets federal qualification requirements and is able to participate in this program. As a result of our district’s participation in this program, we will no longer be collecting Free and Reduced-Price Applications from Central Emerson Elementary families this school year. Please watch for more information about the CEP program in the coming weeks.

From the School Nurse
Medication at School: Medication is defined as all drugs, whether prescription or over-the-counter. The school is authorized to administer oral medication by RCW 28A.210.260 and 28A.210.270 to students during school hours or while students are in the custody of the school only when necessary to permit the student to attend school. The staff does NOT administer medication by injection at school. Neither can they administer over the counter medication without the approved paperwork from your child’s healthcare provider (doctor).
Oral medication will be administered only when the school office is in receipt of a current, written request from a Licensed Health Care Provider and parent/legal guardian. Medication request forms are available in the school office and must be completely filled out. Medication must arrive at school in the original pharmacy container and delivered by an adult.
For more information please contact our Nurse, Marcia Alexander at marcia.alexander@sno.wednet.edu.

- Picture Day on Emerson Campus is September 20 with retakes on November 2.

Communications
- Thursday Folders: Good communication is important between school and home. To assist parents in the communication process, we use the Thursday folder system for school-wide communication. Your child(ren) will be provided a folder. Please check items sent home in this folder and sign the enclosed sheet and return to school the next school day. There is a weekly progress report that comes home as well. If your child is not bringing home a folder on Thursday, please check with him/her as to the reason.
- School Website: Please bookmark Central Emerson's website. We hope to meet the needs of our parents, students, staff and community users.
- Listserv - If you would like to receive district and school newsletters, please subscribe to our listserv subscription tool. For directions on how to subscribe or change your subscription preferences (for those already signed up), please click here.
- School Messenger - Our district uses the School Messenger automated system as a tool for communication with our parents, families and staff. School Messenger works with the district’s student-data system (Skyward/Family Access) to notify families and staff through phone and/or email of emergencies, critical school and district messages, school/district closures, inclement weather, attendance issues, underfunded student meal accounts and other events/activities. The overall goal of using this service is for parents/guardians to receive critical information about Snohomish schools - especially information that affects their children - in a timely manner. As long as we have accurate primary phone numbers and emails on record for our students in Skyward/Family Access, families should automatically receive these messages when they are sent out.

Attendance Reminders
Research shows that regular attendance and punctuality have a positive effect on student learning and achievement. Regular attendance is essential to a student’s success in school.
If a student is going to be absent or tardy from school, the parent should call the school’s absentee message line before 8:30 a.m. in the morning. Messages may be left on this message line at any time night or day. If we have not heard from you, we will attempt to call you to verify your student’s safety. For safety reasons, no student may leave the school campus during the school day without being signed out in person by his/her guardian or a designated adult.
According to Snohomish School District policy, absences due to illness or a health condition; a religious observance when requested by the student’s parents; a school approved activity; a family emergency; a school disciplinary action or short-term suspension as required by state law, are excused. When a student returns to school after an absence, according to state law, they must bring a note from their parent(s) verifying the reason for the absence. The note should include the date of absence, the reason and a parent signature.
