Special Session #3
Special Session #3 is currently underway in Austin. We are still hopeful that public education funding may still be added to the agenda. Right now, only education savings accounts (vouchers) are on the agenda. I am including the information about the governor's proclamation, since all Texas public schools are in need of additional funding. Our representatives are listed below. The state saw a surplus of approximately $33 billion dollars collected and some were set aside for public education. However, we are still waiting on a bill to increase school funding and teacher pay raises for this year.
The governor released the agenda for the Special Session and it had the following items on the agenda:
88th 3rd C.S. Proclamations
- Consider and act upon legislation providing education savings accounts for all Texas schoolchildren. [Thu Oct 5, 2023]
- Consider and act upon legislation to do more to reduce illegal immigration by creating a criminal offense for illegal entry into this state from a foreign nation and authorizing all licensed peace officers to remove illegal immigrants from Texas. [Thu Oct 5, 2023]
- Consider and act upon legislation to impede illegal entry into Texas by increasing the penalties for certain criminal conduct involving the smuggling of persons or the operation of a stash house. [Thu Oct 5, 2023]
- Consider and act upon legislation to impede illegal entry into Texas by providing more funding for the construction, operation, and maintenance of border barrier infrastructure. [Thu Oct 5, 2023]
- Consider and act upon legislation concerning public safety, security, environmental quality, and property ownership in areas like the Colony Ridge development in Liberty County, Texas. [Thu Oct 5, 2023]
- Consider and act upon legislation prohibiting COVID-19 vaccine mandates by private employers. [Thu Oct 5, 2023]
