Weekly Community Updates - October 13, 2023
Dear Students and Families,
I want to echo Ms. Presta's message that Oceana serves to be a safe and supportive place for our students. We have counselors and staff for students who need support. I would encourage students to reach out to our counselors whenever they need space or need to process something. Families can also refer their students to counseling by using this google form.
I hope everyone enjoys this weekend and gets some quality time to rest.
Take care,
Maritza Torres
Students! Check out this Youth Town Hall
Assemblymember Berman is hosting his annual virtual Youth Town Hall will take place on Saturday, October 14th, from 12:00pm-1:30pm on Zoom.
Participants will get to voice their perspectives and priorities for California directly with their state Assemblymember. The votes Legislators take have the greatest lasting impact on young people, and as such, it is critically important that students’ perspectives are represented in their government.

STOPit: An Online Reporting Tool
We are pleased to announce that our school has enrolled with STOPit Solutions Anonymous Reporting System. STOPit is an online reporting tool designed to deter and help stop bullying, cyber abuse, and other inappropriate behaviors. Through the STOPit mobile and website, anonymous reports can be made to school administrators, with the goal of creating safer and kinder school communities, both on and offline.
This reporting system allows students and families to:
Anonymously report concerns through the STOPit App, or website, which are sent to a 24/7 Incident Response Center
Submit photo or video evidence (App/web only)
Alert designated administrators to issues and concerns before escalating
No personal information is needed to use STOPit. Both our school and STOPit are committed to protecting the privacy of student data. STOPit is a signatory to the Student Privacy Pledge, spearheaded by the Future of Privacy Forum and the Software; Information Industry Association. You may review STOPit’s Privacy Policy for details, including more information on how anonymous reporting works.
The District will launch this program on Monday, October 16, 2023. On this day, we will be encouraging all students to download the STOPit app to their smartphone at no charge. QR codes will also be posted around campus to encourage students to download the STOPit app.

Halloween Fest
We are excited for our Halloween Fest on October 27th! Students have been working hard to create lots of fun activities to share with our students and community to enjoy.
Because there was some underage drinking last year at Halloween Fest, we have decided to implement dance protocols for students moving forward. There will be no in and outs for students and we will be conducting bag checks. Finally, the only entrance to the event will be from the Oceana Blvd parking lot.
Please reach out if you have any questions.
