Encourage your child at home!
Motivating your child to earn a Wildcat Positive Behavior Referral on Valentine's Day in order to obtain a gift can be a great opportunity to instill valuable life skills and work ethic. Here's how you can approach it:
- Set Expectations: Clearly explain what a good referral entails.
- Link Effort to Reward: Show how hard work leads to earning the gift.
- Discuss Benefits: Highlight the benefits beyond just the gift.
- Set Goals: Collaborate on achievable goals and celebrate milestones.
- Provide Support: Offer encouragement and assistance when needed.
- Make it Exciting: Create excitement with visuals or incentives.
- Lead by Example: Be a positive role model.
- Celebrate Success: Recognize and celebrate their achievement.
SO PROUD OF OUR START OF EXCELLENCE & INNOVATION AT RMS
CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. JILLIAN KEITH!
Jillian is a phenomenal educator and leader at Roosevelt Middle School. She currently serves as one of the special education department chairs. She always makes you feel heard. Her students grow, both academically and emotionally, in leaps and bounds after having her class. She provides a safe space for students to learn, explore, and build their identity in middle school. She builds strong, positive relationships between families and the school that extend all three years of middle school. We are so fortunate to have her expertise on our campus.
FEBRUARY 17TH IS RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS DAY
What Is a Random Act of Kindness?
By definition, a random act of kindness is a selfless action performed by an individual to help or benefit someone else without any expectation of recognition or reward. These acts can be small or large and can have a significant impact on the person or people receiving them, as well as the person performing the act.

THE CALIFORNIA HEALTHY YOUTH ACT
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The intent of the California Healthy Youth Act 2016 (CHYA) is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect their sexual and reproductive health from unintended pregnancy, the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Comprehensive sexual health and HIV prevention education is mandated instruction and occurs once in middle school and once in high school, starting in grade seven. Instruction is provided by Vista Unified School District certificated personnel.

UPDATE ABOUT THE HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL CAST
Important information!
- The Cast List for our show is going to be posted on my classroom door at 3:30 on Monday, February 5 and emailed to students' school emails. Students must either initial next to their name on the physical list or reply to the email we send them to let us know if they accept their role. If they don't accept their role, that is totally fine; they are welcome to either join the tech team or drop this show and try again at the next one. For those who do accept their roles, our first rehearsal is Tuesday, February 6 in Room C-1.
- Auditions will be over next week, but any students that want to perform in the ensemble (background singers/dancers) are still welcome to join! Our first rehearsal is Tuesday, February 6 in Room C-1.
- Any students interested in working behind the scenes on the show does not have to do an audition--they should just show up to our first rehearsal after school on Tuesday, February 6 in Room C-1.
- Parents are welcome and encouraged to come to our first rehearsal on Tuesday, February 6 in Room C-1! We'll be working with the kids until about 4:30 and then plan to have a meet-and-greet/Q&A Session with any parents that are able to make it, from about 4:30 to 5:00.
Got questions? Email gracemarshall@vistausd.org or come by room C-1!

A VERY NICE VCC STAFF MEMBER VISITS RMS
YOUTH AWARENESSS ABOUT VAPING
Vaping, or the use of electronic cigarettes, is a topic that generates varied opinions and concerns. Some of the common reasons people oppose vaping include health risks associated with inhaling aerosolized substances, especially among young people, as well as concerns about addiction to nicotine and the potential for gateway use to traditional tobacco products. Adolescents and young adults are particularly vulnerable to the marketing tactics of vaping companies. Educating them about the risks of vaping can help prevent them from starting this habit at an early age.
Every Tuesday, Nancy Rocha from Vista Community Clinic visits RMS and provides one-on-one sessions to students to educate them on VAPINE and make healthier choices. We are very grateful for your services.

IMPORTANT STUDENT POLICY MANUAL REGARDING DELIVERING FOOD AT SCHOOL
BRING FOOD FROM OUTSIDE TO SCHOOL
Due to California law related to healthy school initiatives and to minimize distractions in the academic environment, outside food will not be permitted on campus, with the exception of individual student school lunches. This includes large bags of chips, energy drinks, drinks/food purchased from third-party vendors (e.g., Starbucks, Doordash, Uber Eats, etc.), and candy.
Remember: "Food prepared outside is not only dangerous for our students with allergic reactions, but a general distraction for all students."
