OBOB Registration
OBOB Registration CALLING ALL READERS IN GRADES 3-5! You are invited to participate in the Oregon Battle of the Books! OBOB is a voluntary reading incentive program developed for 3rd-5th graders. OBOB provides a reading list of 16 books to be read by a 4-5 member team. Typically each student reads 4 books that they are “experts” on, but of course the more they read the better prepared the team will be. There is no requirement for how many books a student reads. Even if they just read one they can still participate. Teams “battle” other teams by answering questions in a quiz show type competition. All practices and battles will be held during school hours with the exception of the winning team that will attend a regional competition in March.
Students may form their own teams within their own grade. However, students do not need to create a team to participate in OBOB!!!! We will make sure all students are put onto a team. Signup sheets are due to their teachers by October 13, 2023.
Fall Harvest Parties
Hello Deer Creek Families,
Fall brings many diverse holiday celebrations throughout our school community. Students and families celebrate Yom Kippur and Rosh Hashana, Eid al-Ahda, Diwali, Halloween, Dia de los Muertos, Thanksgiving, Mombasa Carnival, and more.
As a school community, we work to celebrate and honor all family traditions. Like last year, we will be having class Harvest Parties on Tuesday, October 31st. While we aren’t doing a school-wide costume day on Halloween, you are welcome to send your child to school in whatever you are comfortable with, whether that’s a costume or regular clothes.
As a reminder for the school dress code:
All students also need to wear clothing to school that isn’t disruptive to school. Something would be disruptive if it distracted them or other students from focusing on learning or if it got in their way of doing school activities, like sitting at a desk, participating in classes like PE, going to the bathroom, and walking up and down stairs.
No images or references to weapons, violence, drugs or alcohol
No profanity or sexually explicit images or words
No face paint or masks
As we look forward to next year, we will be moving our Harvest Parties to November.
Title 1
Parents and Guardians,
Deer Creek is a Title 1 school. Being such, it is a critical piece we include parent input in our planning of instruction and support within the school. Attached are two documents used as part of our Title 1 program. The first is the School-Family Compact which is an agreement that we use each year to help outline our responsibilities to each other and our students. The second is the Parent Involvement Plan (PIP). This document provides guidance for how we connect and include families in our instructional and support planning in our Title 1 program. Please take the time to look over both documents and provide input. The documents and links to input are provided below. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thank you,

Título 1
Padres y tutores,
Gracias,
Carol Halvorson

Volunteer Information
Volunteer process:
We are very fortunate to have wonderful community members and families who want to be part of our students' education by volunteering! With that comes the responsibility of making sure our schools and students are safe at all times.
Anyone seeking to be a volunteer for our schools and or buildings needs to be background checked and offered the vector training. If a community member and or parent wants to volunteer, they have to go through the volunteer process and be cleared before doing so.
Volunteers and after school events:
The volunteer process must be followed if the person will be interacting with our students. Whether the volunteering will take place during school or after school, the parent/community member must undergo the volunteer requirements as outlined on our website. This includes all school and or PTO/PSO sponsored events.
We are very busy with background checks for new hires and volunteers. Please get your volunteer applications submitted sooner than later so you are approved for activities throughout the year. Volunteer applications are good for 3 years, this includes the background check and the training.
Covid Vaccine Cards are no longer required!
