Green Elementary AIG Updates
Seifert Series - Quarter 3 (2023-2024)
Quarter 3 Updates
We are a little over halfway and want to maintain the rigor and hard working environment as we get later into the year. The students are enjoying their projects and digging deeper into the material.
This past semester we had two parent meetings, an overall AIG informational meeting and a 3rd grade specific meeting. You can find the slideshow for these on our school AIG website!
Please read through this newsletter carefully and let me know if you have any questions! I have included our website, upcoming meeting information, helpful links from wake county, and more.
Upcoming Events
Single Subject Acceleration (SSA) Meeting

Reminders will be sent out closer to the meeting date!
Here is some more information regarding the program from our website:
SSA is offered to all students who qualify via testing. Students who qualify will be able to skip a grade in either Math or ELA. Instruction will be provided by the next grade level teacher or via an online module program. Students in 5th grade who are completing the online module will work independently and will not receive direct instruction from the AIG teacher. Any student can be nominated and tested during the assigned windows. Testing only occurs once a year. The SSA Nomination window is usually in March and April and SSA Testing is in April and May. SSA is not an AIG service. It is provided by the county and is separate from AIG.
SSA Important Dates
SSA Interest Meeting: March 12th at 5 PM (access the meeting here)
SSA Test Request Window: April 1-12, 2024
The test request form will be sent home in the weekly message and added to our school's AIG website. No requests for testing will be accepted outside this window!
SSA Testing Window: April 22-May 6, 2024
A testing schedule will be created with teachers and communicated with parents closer to the testing date.
AIG Program Overview
4th-5th Grade Curriculum Snapshots
5th Grade ELA:
We are continuing to integrate technology in our new non fiction unit studying weather. Students were given a choice to create a weather forecast script or write an article from the perspective of a storm chaser encountering a supercell storm. Both of these opportunities give students a chance to show what they have learned, how it all works together, and present their research.
5th Grade Math:
We are looking at multiplying and dividing fractions. Students have shown this through a textbook design project and will continue applying these concepts through creating a hike, using fractions to help them add features along the way!
4th Grade ELA:
Our 4th graders are also having the chance to create an if/then story, which let's the reader choose the ending! They are working on this through google slides with a partner, focusing on collaboration, how to use google tools, and the elements of fictional stories.
4th Grade Math:
Our unit is multiplication and division of large numbers, specifically that have answers with remainders. In the past few weeks, students have been answering story questions to make their way through a map of a labyrinth. The correct answer allows them to proceed as long as they have shown their work. Later, on this quarter, we will move on to area and perimeter problems.
3rd Grade - Explorers
We have been digging deeper into the content taught in the classroom, with a focus on reading comprehension and math computational skills.
