SEPTEMBER SCHOOL NEWS
Welcome back to school! The staff at Hudson was excited to see so many families at Back to School Night. Students have been learning the school-wide expectations and have been working hard in class. Currently, the teachers are conducting beginning of the year assessments to determine how to best support each student. If you ever have any questions regarding your child(ren)'s school day, feel free to contact the classroom teacher or the school office at (309)557-4419.
We will have a Fall Scholastic Book Fair at Hudson from September 21-27. There will be a Family Night from 4:00-6:00 on Thursday, September 21st. Families are invited to shop the book fair and enjoy a meal from a food truck.
Have you heard about Behavior Bucks?
Students are earning Behavior Bucks for following school expectations. Each month during the noon hour, behavior bucks are drawn and those students can choose a privilege from our Privilege Menu. Students really like to choose extra recess or lunch with a friend. Students also love hearing their name announced when they win!!
Hudson Elementary Behavior Matrix
School-wide expectations are taught using a behavior matrix. Students learn that the expectations are the same for everyone. Please take some time to review the expectations at home using our matrix (linked below). You could even create a behavior matrix to use at home.
The ZONES of Regulation
The students at Hudson Elementary will be participating in The Zones of Regulation curriculum (or “The Zones” for short), which are lessons and activities designed by Leah Kuypers, licensed occupational therapist, to help students gain skills in the area of self-regulation. Self-regulation can go by many names, such as self-control, self-management, and impulse control. It is defined as the best state of alertness of both the body and emotions for the specific situation. For example, when a student plays on the playground or in a competitive game, it is beneficial to have a higher state of alertness. However, that same state would not be appropriate in the library. The lessons and learning activities are designed to help the students recognize when they are in the different Zones as well as learn how to use strategies to change or stay in the Zone they are in. In addition to addressing self-regulation, the students will gain an increased vocabulary of emotional terms, skills in reading other people’s facial expressions, perspective about how others see and react to their behavior, insight into events that trigger their behavior, calming and alerting strategies, and problem solving skills.
Noon Hour Supervisors Needed!
Hudson Elementary is in need of noon hour supervisors. If interested, please call the school office at 557-4419. Noon Hour Supervisors work from 10:45-12:15.
