Laker Weekly - Summer Update #4
August 26, 2022
Principal's Post
Dear Laker Community,
Monday, August 29, 9th grade students only
Monday, August 29, 9th grade and New Family BBQ from 4:00 - 6:00
Tuesday, August 30, all students
During a normal week we would have Support Seminar on Tuesday and Wednesday, however, this week all students will need to report to their Advisory class (Period 9 on their schedule) during the 10:02 - 10:34 time frame.
Please allow plenty of time to get to school on time. We highly encourage students taking the bus, carpooling, or walking to school as Country Club Rd and surrounding roads get very busy from 8:05 until school starts. The first bell rings at 8:20 and students need to be in class at 8:25.
Have a fabulous weekend and we will see everyone on Monday!
Take care,
Kristen Colyer
Principal

SMART Start Survey
Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for participating in Smart Start. We hope your student and you feel welcome and prepared to start the school year.
Thank you to all who participated in Smart Start 2022. It was a wonderful opportunity specifically for our students with 504s and IEPs, and their parents/guardians, to make introductions with their teachers.
Smart Start is hosted every year, and feedback about your experience is very helpful for planning the event. Please share your input in the follow-up survey -- your responses are appreciated by Tuesday, Sept. 6. Smart Start 2022 Survey
Meal Service Updated for 2022/23
- Universal free meals for all has ended. This school year we are going back to free, reduced and paid categories. This year we will be using the Oregon Expanded Income Guidelines (EIG), which will help us provide free meals to more families. A family of four making $83,250 annually can now qualify fo free meals compare to the USDA standard of $36,075. For more info on how to apply for free meals families can visit this page. We have an online version or a PDF that can be used.
https://www.losdschools.org/Page/7971
- Meal ID badges. In order to have the lunch lines flow with ease we are going to use pinned/scanners at the POS. Students can scan their ID barcode at the POS making it easy and fast to go through the lunch line. They can also use the pin-pad incase they forget or lose their ID badge.
- Secondary - Students can have the option of using their barcode on their Student ID card. They can also take a picture of it with their phone and use that picture at the POS. This is up to each school if they want to allow students to use their phones for this.
- Creating a Meal Account. Online meal accounts are not necessary but are strongly encouraged to have. This will make it much easier for families that want to add funds to students accounts. Meal accounts can be made with SchoolCafe. There is a small fee for depositing money into each account, but if parents deposit $100 or more they get their fee back as a credit to their account. We will accept cash or checks at the POS. Checks can be made to “LOSD - Nutrition Services”. Below is more information on how to create an account.
Get involved with the Laker Parent Club
Dear Laker Families,
On behalf of the Lake Oswego High School Laker Parent Club we want to welcome you to Lake Oswego High School for the 2022-2023 school year! We are so excited to be back and encourage you to get involved!
In order to ensure registration flows smoothly and swiftly for all our Laker families on August 17th and 18th, we would love to have you join in on the fun by volunteering! There are still quite a few spots to fill and we'd love to put our best foot forward and ensure our process will be quick and easy! Please sign up for a shift or two, or three, today at Registration Sign Up. As of Friday, August 12 we are still needing support for our Freshman Check In time!
As many of you already know, the Laker Parent Club decided a few years ago that it was important for us to encourage all parent participation, so we did away with charging a membership fee in order to become a member! All Laker parents and guardians are welcome to participate in the Laker Parent Club and everyone will receive Directory Spot, our digital directory within about a month of school starting.
At the same time, we moved away from formal auction fundraising and smaller fundraisers throughout the year and have been able to use a more direct, inclusive and streamlined approach that puts funds into the classroom at the beginning of the school year. This has allowed our administration to hone in on the most effective use of funds throughout the year. All monies will go towards fulfilling Laker Club Teacher Grants, and these funds will cover a myriad of enhancements to our school and classrooms. For the 2022-2023 school year we are asking for a voluntary tax deductible donation of $125 per family, but any amount is appreciated.
Please make your tax deductible donation here Laker Club Donation

Helping Hunger Fighters of Oregon through 24 miles in 24 hours
The theme for this year's event is food insecurity, because inflation and rising living costs have worsened an already poor food crisis. Our own student, Jackson Rigney, is fundraising for Hunger Fighters Oregon, a local non-profit that serves the Lake Oswego area. He will be running from August 28th at 10AM to August 29th at 10AM. Jackson will run the final mile at the LOHS track!
