DID YOU KNOW?
Whitney 4th grader Braxton P. has been working with Music Teacher Mrs. Gonczy since early January to design and build a model of the Wright Brothers plane for a recent musical. A great example of the 'Model Mustang' competencies, Braxton has been innovative, resilient, collaborative, global, and empowered. He has researched and provided Mrs. Gonczy numerous facts about the Wright Brothers, and helped her with behind the scenes preparation for this 4th grade musical. Check out this week’s '60 Seconds with the Superintendent' episode to learn more about Braxton and this Whitney Elementary musical!

60 Seconds with the Superintendent
What happens when an elementary music teacher empowers her students to create and contribute to a musical about the Wright Brothers first flight? At Whitney Elementary, Mrs. Gonczy had a group of 4th graders who worked behind the scenes to further enhance this production. Click HERE for this week’s episode to learn more about their efforts.

SHS & SMS NAMED ‘PROJECT LEAD THE WAY’ DISTINGUISHED SCHOOLS
Congratulations to both Strongsville High School and Strongsville Middle School for once again being named Project Lead The Way Distinguished Programs. It’s the 2nd straight year for SHS and the 4th straight year for SMS earning this distinction. This recognition celebrates schools committed to inspiring and engaging students in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) courses, while helping students own their education by increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs. These districts and schools empower their students to unlock their potential by developing the in-demand, real-world knowledge and skills necessary to thrive in life beyond the classroom.

MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. COURTNEY TIMKO, SECOND GRADE TEACHER AT MURASKI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Mrs. Courtney Timko has taught at Muraski Elementary since 2015. Mrs. Timko is in her 21st year in education and currently teaches 2nd grade. She graduated summa cum laude from Cleveland State University with her undergraduate degree.
“There are so many aspects of working with Muraski students that bring joy and meaning to the effort I put in on a daily basis in my second grade classroom. Watching my young students reach important milestones through their own personal growth and success, and getting to be just a small part of their ongoing journey through learning, is truly one of the most magical and meaningful parts of my profession. I love witnessing their "lightbulb moments" occur as all things just seem to "click" and make sense for them; from there, the opportunities for continued success are truly endless. It is a genuine gift being able to stay connected with my students and their families over the years as I see them in the hallways of Muraski and check in on how they are doing later in their young lives. Building connections and maintaining these important relationships are at the heart of who I am as a teacher as I strive to build a strong classroom community with my students each year. We truly do become a family, which always makes saying farewell at the end of a school year so bittersweet,” said Mrs. Timko.
“The best part of teaching at Muraski is the camaraderie and collaboration amongst my colleagues, my students, and their families. From extremely dedicated educators and support staff to strong administrative leadership, we truly work together to do what is best for Strongsville's young learners each and every day. Our students come to school each day excited to be here and ready to learn and that is a true testament to the value their families place on education and the ongoing efforts of each and every staff member at Muraski, regardless of their role. My teammates at the second grade level are like family to me and I am so incredibly grateful for the genuine partnership we have. We absolutely work together as a team and our students reap the benefits as we genuinely enjoy working together and making school fun and engaging for our young learners. Education truly takes a village and I feel so lucky to be part of the Muraski and SCS family!”
Thank you Mrs. Timko for your passion and enthusiasm for teaching our 2nd graders at Muraski! #WeAreStrongsville
