Monitoring Your Child's Internet Use is Hard... And Necessary!
I have always told parents that giving their child a computer, phone, or tablet without any supervision is the same as putting them in the middle of Times Square, in New York City, without a parent. Not one of us would do that!
We know from experience that our middle school students are doing some cool things using technology, from homework to fun skits for a virtual talent show to personal interest research.
But we also know that our kids are showing rude, mean, and bullying behavior online and that they are looking up adult topics, Our kids are also texting, calling, and FaceTiming their friends in the middle of the night, Of course, they are posting a variety of things to social media. And sadly, we have students who are on adult websites or even sending naked pictures of themselves to others.
This stuff should be terrifying to us all! Parents are often surprised when we share what their child is doing on the internet or on social media. Fortunately, we often hear from peers or parents who alert us to dangerous situations that students are in. We rely on those emails or calls so that we can support the student and inform the parents.
Discipline is not our issue here.... safety is! We strongly encourage you to find monitoring software for your child's phone and/or tablet. Here are two articles (article #1 and article #2) that give you a few options, and you can do a Google search for more help.
If there is anything we can do to support you as you keep your child safe, we are here to help!
Best-
Tim
Important Reminders for After School Pick Up
We recognize that accessing our school can be challenging, especially at dismissal time. We really need everyone to remember the following:
You need to pick up kids at the Norris Center parking lot after school, NOT off the Dunham Road driveway, Kirk Rd, or Fox Chase Blvd roadways, or in the neighborhoods surrounding our school. CLICK HERE for our detailed parking lot safety protocol.
Go slowly and be aware of all students and cars in the lots, crossing the roadways.
You need to pull into a parking space in the Norris lot.
Please follow all posted signs and arrows.
Parents may NOT pick-up students from our back parking lot without permission from Mr. Loversky (ex. due to injury, on crutches). They will receive a pass for this purpose. We have too many smaller buses trying to pick up students from this area.
FINAL CALL FOR ORDERING A 2022-2023 YEARBOOK!
