Madison Memo
November 2023
A Message from the Principal
Greetings Madison Families,
As the first quarter comes to an end, there is so much to celebrate and be thankful for! Our students and staff have settled into a routine and progress is being made each day in Success For All. After all, the BEST way to improve in reading is to READ! Carve out some time each night to read to your children or listen to them read to you. It will be a fond memory for them as they grow older.
November is a time to ponder the many gifts we have and can share with others. Kindness and thankfulness are at the forefront of our mind, with Thanksgiving approaching. Let’s challenge ourselves to keep a grateful heart throughout the year, spreading kindness everywhere we go. You might even consider keeping a gratitude journal, or reflecting as a family on the positive moments you had in your day. Another idea to consider is a random act of kindness. How could you brighten someone else’s day?
Together, we CAN make the world a better place for ALL! Wishing you and your family a HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
~Mrs. Eichmeier

The Reading Corner
Dear Madison Families,
Our new Success For All reading program is off to a great start! A key component to our success is you reading with your child at home on a nightly basis. Please take time out of your busy schedules to ensure your child reads Monday-Thursday for 20 minutes. Your child gets extra points for returning the signed sheet from a loved one, so please continue signing those Read and Respond sheets! We so appreciate your continued interest and support. If you have any questions around SFA, please don't hesitate to reach out.

The Counselor Corner
As we are getting further along into the school year and in our implementation of the Getting Along together curriculum, you may have already heard of our stop and stay cool steps and our feelings thermometer form your child! These tools are being integrated into classrooms as a way for students to identify and regulate their emotions throughout the school day. If a student is having a strong emotion they are encouraged to first identify what they are feeling using “I feel” statements. Then they identify where they are in their feelings thermometer. The higher the emotion, the higher the number on the thermometer. Students will then utilize the stop and stay cool steps listed on the poster above. The use of counting and deep breathing allow for students to calm those heightened emotions so that they are ready to learn! These steps are great to utilize at home if you notice your child struggling with strong emotions. Remind them to stop and stay cool!
