4-H Friday News Blast for 3.13.2020

Hello Cass Extension and 4-H Community,

I hope this email finds you happy, healthy, and hopeful! As you know, in our office we are dedicated to serving you and this community. We strive to do this to the best of our ability. That being said, your well-being is of the highest priority to us. Nebraska Extension employees have been instructed to follow University guidelines to limit any teaching or gathering events where a number of people come together in one place.

It is with disappointment, but hope for a healthy community, that events that were scheduled to take place between March 16th and 29th are cancelled. Furthermore, events occurring between March 30th and May 9th, will only be conducted remotely via distance technology if the situation allows. You will find a list of cancelled events below this message, as well as on our website.

Below you will also find a message from Chuck Hibberd, the Dean of Extension at UNL.

We will keep you updated on our website and via email regarding events that we might reschedule. Know that we are here for you and will continue to work hard to serve you in the best of our ability – from 6 ft away or more

Nebraska Extension is fully committed to the health and well-being of Nebraskans. In a disease situation like COVID-19, the principle of social distancing is one of the main methods that can be used to help reduce the spread of the disease.

Chancellor Ronnie Green has issued guidance that all UNL classes will move to ‘remote’ modes. To be consistent with that guidance, Nebraska Extension will, whenever possible, provide Extension programs remotely (video or teleconferencing) but will not provide in-person Extension programs, at least until May 9. We recognize that this practice may create some level of disruption relative to the important information we provide to Nebraskans. In addition to our ‘remote’ course offerings, we encourage Nebraskans to visit extension.unl.edu to access a wide array of online information.

To date 491 individuals have enrolled/re-enrolled:

• 364 youth (there are a lot of you out there that haven't re-enrolled yet - the time is NOW)
• 73 volunteers.

Who has to re-enroll? Club members, club leaders, independent members, project leaders, and superintendents must re-enroll each year. Reminder: The deadline to re-enroll is March 15!

There are numerous 4-H Award Sponsor opportunities available for the 2020 Cass County Fair in the areas of Livestock Judging, Beef, Sheep, Goat, Horse, Small Animal, Modeling, Shooting Sports, Floriculture, and General Areas.

Interested in Community Service or Encouraging 4-Hers who sew? Here's an opportunity to consider! During the county fair, superintendents are needed to help in these two categories: Community Service and Clothing. Superintendents can be anyone ... like 4-H Alumni!!! If you are interested, or could recommend someone, contact the 4-H office at 402-267-2205 or cass-county@unl.edu. You'll be glad you did! :)
