Armada High School Newsletter
November 2021
Greetings!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is hard to believe we are nearing the holiday season. As we head into Thanksgiving this month, I want to express gratitude for having the most amazing staff and students here at Armada High School. Sometimes we take for granted the experiences and people we see daily. I am very fortunate to be part of a district with such amazing families who are as focused and motivated as we are to provide a first-class education for our students.
Our students continue to work very hard in and out of the classroom. Watching our students prepare for the school musical, a band competition, halftime show, a game, a match, or meet is inspiring to say the least. Equally incredible are the adults who lead and support these efforts. We have a great thing going in Armada and we must continue to push ourselves to become better versions of ourselves each and every day.
Along with the upcoming holidays is the end of Trimester 1. We are approaching A block exams this Friday and B block exams on November 19th. Both of these days will be half days with an 11:00am dismissal. Please check your student's PowerSchool to make sure their work is up-to-date. After B block exams, we hope you and your family enjoy a relaxing Thanksgiving Break from November 22 through November 26.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Jordan Ackerman
Principal, Armada High School
AP Testing Information
Armada High School desires that all students taking Advanced Placement classes register for the spring AP exam. There are many benefits to taking the exam, including earning an extra 0.5 grade bump in the course, and earning college credit with a successful score.
Registering for the AP Exams Requires Two Important Steps:
First students must ensure they have joined their teacher’s AP section by using the “Join Code” in your student account on the My AP website. After joining a class, students will be entered into the ordering system and also have access to AP resources to prepare for the exams.
The second step is to pay for the test(s) you are taking. This can be done with Mrs. Byars, with a check made payable to Armada High School.
Registration Information:
Exam Fee: $96 (Check made out to Armada High School. Give to Ms. Byars)
Late Exam Order: $40 (in addition to exam fee)
Unused/Canceled Exam Fee: $40 (refund of $56)
Ordering Deadline: Thursday, November 11
Exams will not be ordered unless payment is received. This is a change from last year, when there was no fee for unused tests.
Testing locations will be announced in the weeks prior to the exams.

Senior Reminders
Our seniors have been busy preparing for life after high school! Every senior has completed an initial, post-secondary advising meeting with their counselor. The Counseling Department will continue to meet with seniors and assist them in planning for graduation and beyond!
During the months of September and October, Armada hosted 26 virtual college/career presentations. We also held a virtual on-the-spot admissions event with Oakland University, with a total of 2 students accepted. Congratulations to those hard-working seniors!
Overall, we are at 19.15% of our students #Accepted. We could not be prouder of our seniors and look forward to these numbers increasing each month. Just as a reminder, students are encouraged to visit the counseling website at ahscounseling.weebly.com consistently throughout the year, as to not miss college visit information, scholarships, etc. It is strongly recommended that senior students and parents also sign up for BAND.
The Counseling Department hosted a virtual financial aid workshop facilitated by Gregory Ashe, Senior Financial Aid Outreach Advisor from Oakland University. Students and parents had the opportunity to work on completing their FAFSA application, from the comfort of their own home, while receiving feedback and assistance from an expert in the financial aid field. Just as a reminder, the FAFSA became available on October 1st. We encourage our seniors to complete their financial aid applications as soon as possible because some financial aid is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Many college scholarships require that students have a FAFSA on file to be eligible to apply.

Social Emotional Health
Students’ and families’ social and emotional health is important to us. Please know our school counselors are available to assist families in need and can be a great resource for locating providers within our local area. In addition, our counselors keep an updated list of community resources on their website: http://ahscounseling.weebly.com/community-resources.html
Should your student ever wish to meet with a counselor, he/she can sign up in the counseling office or request an appointment online. Links to appointments can be found on the main page of the counseling department’s website under each counselor’s name.
