Chick Hatching Fun!
A fabulous LVES parent donated some fertilized eggs to our first grade classes to enrich their current science unit on life cycles. Going through the process of incubating, hatching, and now raising our little chicks adds such a hands-on, engaging component to the learning. Thanks to Mrs. Womack, our librarian, we also have a live stream that any student can tune into throughout the day to check in on our chicks. Be sure to ask your child about it!
Here's the link again, if you want to check them out!
LVES Garden: Growing Vikings and Vegetables
Our garden collaboration will the Lago Vista Garden Club is going strong. Our students love observing the vegetables as they grow, harvesting them, and then writing about it all in their journals. The garden has become a peaceful destination for hands-on, real-world learning.

You can share a moment that made an impact on your student, something you saw that you really appreciated, or anything else! Feel free to put your name if you'd like, but you don't have to. Make sure to put the teacher's name(or names) so we know who to give it to.

Measles Information
With news of the measles outbreak in West Texas, parents have reached out to campus nurses with questions. The purpose of this post is to provide information and resources to parents who have questions or concerns about protecting their child from measles. Note: We have NO reported cases in Lago Vista ISD to date.
What is Measles? Measles is a highly contagious airborne virus with the potential for severe illness. It begins with high fever, cough and a runny nose. It can cause a sore throat, watery reddened eyes which is followed by a fine flat red rash starting at the hairline and moving downward over all the body.
What can I do? The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people get the Measles Mumps Rubella (MMR) vaccine, which provides high levels of protection against measles. For more information, please visit https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/mmr/public/index.html. Parents are encouraged to contact their family physician or pediatrician with questions about the MMR vaccine.
How can I access my child's school immunization records? Parents may access their child's school immunizations records through their Ascender ParentPortal account. Please see the District nurse's webpage for directions on how to see your child's records.
If my child has updated vaccinations, who should I notify? Updated vaccination information should be shared with the school nurse. As a reminder, individual student vaccination records are confidential.
Where can I get more information? Please visit the Texas DSHS updates page for more information.

Thank you for helping us ensure that every child has the opportunity to thrive!
Our goal in Lago Vista ISD is to ensure that every student benefits as much as possible from the great teaching and learning that happen here every day. When your child misses school, they miss out on learning opportunities that simply can't be replicated. That's why this year, we are encouraging all parents to help our students "Strive for 5!" — aim for five or fewer missed days for your child this school year. Of course, if your child is sick, please keep them home. However, we ask that you try to plan vacations and other activities around our school calendar to minimize the loss of valuable instructional time.
In addition to missed learning opportunities, many parents also may not realize that our school's funding from the State is directly tied to daily attendance. Each day your child is present, the school receives about $37. While $37 might not seem significant on its own, it adds up quickly. Last year, the District's funding was reduced by over $700,000 due to student absences. This loss of funds impacts our ability to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, and further enhance the learning environment for all students.
We appreciate your help in reducing avoidable absences so that your child — and all of our students — can take full advantage of the excellent instruction we offer every day.
Dr. Suzy Lofton-Bullis Deputy Superintendent, Lago Vista ISD
Attendance Reminders
- The tardy bell rings at 7:45. Instruction begins immediately at this time.
- Official attendance is taken each day at 9:25. If your child is not physically present at that time, they are counted absent.
- All attendance notes should be given to your child's teacher or emailed to Christine Harris at charris@lagovistaisd.net. Notes should be returned within 3 school days of the absence or appointment.
- Typically, the later in the school day you can schedule needed appointments, the better. You definitely want to avoid the 9:25 time frame if possible.

Lago Vista ISD is now using mySchoolBucks, an online payment service to manage your student's meal account. You can securely fund your student's account via credit card, debit card or your checking account. You will be able to review purchases, see current balance, and receive low balance alerts. The account options are flexible - make a one payment, set up a recurring payment, or set a payment schedule when the account reaches a specified amount.
First, create an account on mySchoolBucks and add your students. If you have multiple children, you can make multiple deposits for each child during your transaction. Next, make a payment. The deposit amount can be placed against a credit card, debit card or your checking account. All payments are securely processed using our highly secure website and encryption. All payments are quickly credited to your students account.
If you have any questions or problems, you may contact Jennifer Porter, Director of School Nutrition Services at (512) 267-8300 x1516.

MySchoolBucks - Autopay & Negative Balance Issues
Have you had an issue with your students "MySchoolBucks - Autopay" not processing? There is a reason this is happening.
When setting up or updating the Autopay feature within your student's MySchoolBucks account, there is one thing to keep in mind. If the account is in a negative state, the Autopay will not start processing until the account is brought current and remains current for at least 24 hours.
You will need to make a one time payment either online (credit card or bank draft) or at the cafeteria registers (cash or check only) in order to bring the account current. Once the account is at or above $0.00 then the Autopay should begin processing.
Note: If an account is cleared this morning and is showing $0.00 as the balance but your student purchases a meal today during lunch, the account will go back into a negative state causing the Autopay to not work. Typically the AutoPay processes overnight, so once it tries to process tonight it will not since the account went back into a negative state. Be sure to clear it and add enough to get them through their day.
