Miller Elementary Weekly Update
September 29, 2023
Mrs. Goodman's Message
Hello Miller Families!
Fall is in the air at Miller Elementary as our preschoolers explored all things apples and kindergarten went to Lake Farm Park to check out Harvest on the Farm! The cloudy weather and cooler temps allowed us to practice zipping our coats and sweatshirts this week, along with watching the trees for changing colors. I cannot believe we are wrapping up the month of September and we're heading into October next week!
Our preschool classes enjoyed many fun center activities to explore tasty apples! Some classes followed the steps to make applesauce, pick their favorite apple color, or make a fun craft! We also had our first Music with Ms. Abbey session which is a community partnership project that we have established to bring outside experiences right to our preschoolers at Miller Elementary School. I hope you enjoy some of the photos below!
Kindergarten had an amazing trip to Lake Farm Park this week! We had a lot of fun making cider, visiting the farm animals, taking a carriage ride and so much more. We want to thank all the parent volunteers who joined us on our trip to the farm and pitched in to make it a great day. If your family would like to visit Lake Farm Park, they are hosting a Corn and Pumpkin event next weekend on October 7th and 8th. You can enjoy all things pumpkins, see the many farm animals, and enjoy their large playground. I have attached the flyer for more information.
Also, this is a reminder that if you would like to sign up to be a member of our PTO, the deadline is October 1st! See the PTO section found below to sign up today!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend! It looks to be sunny and heating up in the days ahead!
GO GREENMEN!

Preschool Enrollment for the Current 23-24 School Year
We are currently accepting names of families interested in having their child be a part of our integrated preschool program for the current 2023-2024 school year. We still have openings in preschool and we will be holding screening days to meet potential children and explain more about our program. In addition, if you know of any families who might be interested in their child being a part of our preschool program, please feel free to pass this message along!
We have attached the preschool waiting list form below so we can collect the names of all interested families. We will reach out to families in the next week or two when we host our screening days. Children must be 3 years old, potty trained, have clear communication skills, and demonstrate age-expected social and emotional skills to be considered as a peer for our integrated program. If you have any questions, you can email Lauren Barker at lbarker@aurora-schools.org.

Miller Parent Pick-Up & Attendance Reporting 23-24
This is a reminder that we are using our Miller Attendance and Parent Pick-up Form as an easy communication tool to report your child will be absent or you need to pick them up from school early. You still need to use the Alternative Bus Stop Form linked in this newsletter if you need your child's bus to change. You do not need to report if they will not be riding the bus in the morning due to an absence or illness on this form.
If you want to change your child from a bus rider to a parent pick-up, please scan the QR code below or click the button to fill out our Google form. This can be done from any device and your reply will be sent immediately to our secretary, Mrs. Wolf.
If you need an alternative bus stop or a change in busing, we also have attached the transportation forms to change your child's busing information. These forms need to be completed and sent to our transportation department at transportationinfo@aurora-schools.org

School Wide PBIS Skill of the Week
- State the directions or command using simple language - Use as few words as possible. Remember to "Tell" not "Ask."
- Avoid a list of directions: "Get your shoes on, get your backpack, and zip your coat." Instead, state one direction at a time and provide positive praise after each accomplished task.
- Still Stuck? Have your child repeat the one direction back to you and make sure they are free from distractions.
- Need Help? Use these sentence starters- First...Then... or When...Then.... or If...Then...
Our PBIS skill of listening right away is reinforced with a Greenmen Proud Pom. When we see a child "listening right away" they earn a pom and help to fill our class bucket and school bucket. You can try this at home to encourage good listening skills too!
Updates From Our School Counselor ~ Mrs. Ambrosia
Hello Miller! Part of my role as a school counselor consists of connecting families with varying resources. You will note a link to a list of Community Resources should you wish to explore resources for your child outside of the school setting. During the school year, Miller offers a variety of opportunities to assist families with financial needs through partnering with our PTO. By reaching out to me via phone, email or in-person, I can assist your student with funds for upcoming Book Fairs or the Holiday Shop, holiday gifts, Thanksgiving “baskets,” winter clothing including jackets, pants and boots; purchase of the class T-shirt, purchase of a yearbook, school supplies and any other need brought to my attention. Please do not hesitate to contact me with the slightest concern. Feel free to simply let me know what you need, and I’ll connect with you to ensure this need is fulfilled!

Updates From Nurse Jackie Pawlowski
Here are some important reminders to ensure the safety of our school community each day:
- Check your child each day for illness symptoms. If they begin to feel ill, please know she will assess your child and make contact with a family member when necessary.
- Students sent home with a fever or vomiting, may not return to school until they are fever or vomit-free without medication for at least 24 hours. This means if your child was sent home on Tuesday with a fever, he/she may not return to school until Thursday. If your child does return the next day, our school will be calling for you to come and pick him/her up. Please help to support our efforts in this area.
- We will use Final Forms to communicate any health concerns or communicable diseases that may arise in your child's class. Such examples include strep throat, pink eye, and COVID. This will allow you to closely monitor your child for any similar symptoms.
- Please make sure your Final Forms medical information is up to date. We will closely read the health sections to address any medical concerns.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email our school nurse Jackie Pawlowski at jpawlowski@aurora-schools.org.
