The Eagle Edition
Edison Elementary ~ January 2024
Note from the Principals
We are excited to be starting 2024 and the 3rd grading period with your child(ren)! People commonly talk about resolutions, but the New Year is also a great time to look back and celebrate growth and progress made. We are proud of the growth of each of our Edison Eagles!
Winter weather is definitely among us! We do our best to get our students out for recess as long as the wind chill is 20 degrees or warmer while also taking into consideration the condition of the playground. Please make sure your child has appropriate layers of clothing and outerwear. We do remind students that they are not to play in the snow since they can't change out of wet clothes like they would at home. Thank you for reinforcing that message at home.

Start With Hello
We are happy to share some fantastic news about a district-wide initiative that is going to make a positive impact on our entire school community – the Start with Hello program!
This program is all about building connections and making our school a friendlier, more inclusive place. We believe that a simple "hello" can make a big difference, and we want to see kindness and positivity spread throughout our hallways. Read below for more information as well as the spirit days we have planned.
Crossroads Prevention Services
Sources of Strength Lessons
This January-April, Edison will be partnering with Crossroads to bring the Sources of Strength program to our students. Our classroom teachers will stay with their classes as Crossroads presents the lessons to each class.
Sources of Strength is a strengths-based, upstream suicide prevention program. The curriculum was originally written to be 30-minute weekly classroom lessons. However, at Crossroads Health we have condensed the entire curriculum into 4, 40-minute lessons. The four lessons are mental health (self-awareness and brain/body connection), healthy activities (regulation strategies), generosity (kindness and empathy), and community and connection (positive friends and connecting to help). The Sources of Strength website has some resources for parents, and we can forward any other questions you have to our contacts at Crossraods! https://sourcesofstrength.org/
If you would like to opt out of Crossroads support, please complete and return this form.

Calamity Day Information
With winter weather coming soon, please see the Calamity Day Information provided by the district. Make sure you have your School Messenger set to receive messages as desired.
School Messenger
School Messenger is the automated system used by the Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools to make attendance calls and send district wide messages, such as school closings due to inclement weather, and event reminders. You can manage your account through the parent portal in PowerSchool. It’s simple! You can also identify more than one primary email address to receive notifications. Instructions are being provided for your convenience. The building secretaries can also help with editing your contact information and with questions regarding non-custodial adults, such as significant others, who need to receive messaging.
Mrs. Hanlon welcomed a baby girl in early December! Ms. Tracey Davison joins us as our temporary Family Liaison while Mrs. Hanlon enjoys her maternity leave. Ms. Davison can be reached at tracey.davison@weschools.org or 440-283-2292.
Edison PTO
Edison families and staff are automatically part of our PTO! Meetings are the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Edison library. You can reach out to the PTO via email at eagles@edisonpto.org, and can follow them on Facebook and Instagram. Purses for a Purpose is Edison PTO's signature event and fundraiser.
