Wiggin Street Parent Update

Better Together

Families,

Our teachers have been busy today in Professional Development, planning, and working on report cards that will go out next Friday. We hope students enjoyed some play and downtime after a busy week that concluded with great fun on Friday! There were 1st and 2nd grade field trips followed by our PBIS Reward with Kenyon athletes, and then Mumkin Sale Celebration complete with a Silly String Battle and Money Machine!

We have more fun events next week with Pumpkins on Parade complete with food trucks and ends Friday with our Fall Harvest Parade and parties. Weather permitting, we will parade up Wiggin Street, around Gaskin Avenue, and back to the school.

Also, our 3rd grade students will be taking their fall ELA Ohio State Test on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please help them to be successful by making sure they get a good night's sleep and healthy breakfast to give them energy. We appreciate it, and know that our student's will do their best to show what they know.

Food Trucks!

Pumpkins on Parade

Beginning at 5 pm on Tuesday, October 24th, your family is invited to bring a blanket or chairs to sit on the front lawn of Wiggin Street to decorate a pumpkin. Each child or family needs to bring their own pumpkin and Friends of Wiggin Street will provide decorations. Parents are expected to stay with their children and help them to create a boo-tiful pumpkin creation. The event will last from 5-7 pm.

Bring your own pumpkin Tuesday night (we’ll provide the decorations!) Food Trucks will be onsite for dinner!

Fall Harvest Parade and Parties

We are excited for our parade and parties on October 27th! Children are invited to participate in our annual costume parade. The parade will begin at 2:15 with parties following. The exception is 3rd grade who has a party before the parade due to specials from 2:45-3:30.

Costumes should come to school in a bag and children should be able to get in and out of their costumes easily. (If you feel your child needs help with his/her costume, please contact the classroom teacher.) Please make sure that there are no scary costumes because of our younger students. There should be no Halloween masks. No pretend weapons of any kind are permitted at school even as a part of the costume. Please save those for trick-or-treat night.

We ask parents not to pass out treats along the route, however some of the local businesses may pass out candy to kids.

Third Grade Fall Ohio State Testing

On October 24th and 25th, 3rd grade students will take the Fall administration of the state English Language Arts Assessment. In case of absence, the make up day will be October 26th. The test will take place between 9:30-11:30 on these days. We would ask that you please not schedule any special appointments for these dates.

1st Quarter PBIS Event

Students who received 50 PBIS points this quarter had the opportunity to have extra recess with Kenyon athletes on Thursday. I think the big kids enjoyed it as much as our students!

Mumkin Sale Celebration

Our students met their goal for selling Mumkins and were rewarded with popsicles. Also, the top sellers were able to have a Silly String Battle and some even went into the Money Machine!

MVFD Finalists

There were 3 students selected from Wiggin Street as finalists in the MVFD Fire Safety Poster Contest out of 286 applicants!

1st Grade Field Trip to Lehner's Pumpkin Patch

Thanks to all the parent volunteers that traveled to Lehner's Pumpkin Patch with First Grade! They also benefitted from a beautiful fall day to spend picking out pumpkins.

Our next Friends of Wiggin Street meeting will be November 7th at 5:00 pm. We hope to see you there!

Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair will be open during Parent/Teacher Conferences. Students will also be able to create a wish list and/or purchase items on Wednesday, November 1st during school hours. A digital e-wallet shopping link will be provided prior to the sale that can be shared with family and friends.

Lost and Found

Fall has arrived! Please remind your student to get their sweatshirts and jackets from lost and found. Don't forget to check out the collection at Parent/Teacher Conferences.

Remember that it is helpful to label all jackets, lunchboxes, bookbags, etc.

Morning Drop Off Safety Reminder

For those dropping off students in the morning, please do not get out of your vehicle. If your student needs assistance getting out of the vehicle, please pull off to the right side and walk them safely to the sidewalk.

Also, students are to walk in front of their car when exiting from the passenger side, so parents can watch for them. For this reason, please do not back up to go around a car. If you leave plenty of space between cars, you can go around if needed.

This is for the safety of all students, so that no one gets injured. Thank you!

Idle-free Zone

For pick up, please do not arrive until 3:30. There is no stopping, standing, or parking on E. Brooklyn St. allowed. Also, please reminder that our school is an Idle-free Zone. Protect our children and the community by turning off your engine.
