Principal's Message
Hello Murwood Families,
We are pleased to announce that the Walnut Creek School District has hired credentialed teachers for our elementary music program in grades one through five. This is a great benefit for our students as our highly qualified teachers will be implementing a districtwide music program that is consistent across all schools and progresses through the grade levels. When students reach grade four, they will have the opportunity to select General Music or Instrumental Music where they will go deeper into their preferred musical area. TK and K students will continue to benefit from an instructional music specialist who will join their classroom teacher each week. Music minutes for students are as follows:
TK/K: 30 minutes weekly
First through Third Grade: 45 minutes weekly
Fourth and Fifth Grade General Music Students: 45 minutes weekly
Fourth and Fifth Grade Instrumental Music Students: 75 minutes weekly over two sessions.
Please welcome our new team, Devon Allen, Natalie Krause, Stephanie Wong, Instructional Specialist Frank Ryken and Band Teacher Jessica Batdorf (not pictured).

Message From the Library
We are fortunate to have a number of new books in our library! A large selection comes from Scholastic's Branches and Acorn line. From their website:
Branches is Scholastic’s early chapter book line aimed at newly independent readers ages 5-8. Branches books include easy-to-read and decodable text, high-interest content, fast-paced plots, and illustrations on every page. They have a 2nd grade reading level, spanning Guided Reading Levels L-P, and can appeal to kids across grades K-3 and beyond.
Acorn is Scholastic's early reader line aimed at children ages 4-7 who are learning to read. These books include easy-to-read text, a short-story format, and full-color artwork on every page. They have a 1st grade reading level, spanning Guided Reading Levels E-K, and can appeal to kids across grades PreK-2 and beyond.
Look out for these types of new books and more!"
Please make sure library books are being returned on time.
Notes From The Office
IMPORTANT REMINDERS
A reminder to all that Murwood is a closed campus during school hours. Visitors and volunteers must sign in at the office and obtain a visitor badge. If you are going to drop off lunches or other items for your child, please bring the items to the office and we will be happy to deliver them. Please do not take items directly to the classroom. Also, we ask that parents not linger in the hallways after the morning bell. If you are staying to volunteer please sign-in.
Please do not park in spaces marked “staff”, as these spots are reserved for teachers and staff. If you need to walk your child in, please use a non staff space. Better yet, use the drop off lane and avoid the need to park altogether.
If your child is going to be absent, please call the school to report the absence on our main number: 925-943-2462. There is a voicemail for leaving messages after hours. Please leave the following information: student name, your name and relationship to student, teacher name, date(s) of absence and reason for absence. Please note that illnesses of 3 consecutive days or more require a note from the doctor. Unverified absences will be recorded as unexcused.
Thank you.
