The application period for our second Shamrock Academy cohort is open!

Recently, the Westfield Police Department School Resource Officers (SROs) hosted the first ever Little Citizens’ Academy for 1st-5th grade aged children from Westfield. Participants got to know the SROs and learned about being a good citizen. Participants were also visited by WPD’s Criminal Investigation Team, Emergency Service Unit members, Drone Team, and K9 officers. The SROs also conducted a STEM workshop showing the importance of wearing seatbelts while in a vehicle. It was a great week, and the SROs are thankful for the opportunity to connect with children in our community. We would also like to extend our gratitude to all of the officers that visited and to Westfield Washington Schools for helping us put on a great program!

Westfield Washington Schools and the Westfield Police Department have a great relationship which has been beneficial to both parties as well as for the safety of our students and community members. In addition to having 5 school resource officers (officers who's full-time post is within the school district), every one of our schools is a police substation, which means any officer on duty, SRO or not, can stop in and get paperwork done and be a presence in the school building.

This past school year (2021-22), Westfield PD made a total of 4,575 visits to our schools, and this is doesn't count the constant presence of the resource officers. This has lead to our principals, teachers and students having great relationships with our local police officers and WPD's very timely responses in the event that we have a safety situation.

For an idea of the frequency of visits, check out the chart below that shows the amount of WPD visits to our schools in the month of May.

As a reminder, all visitors to any of our schools will be required to register with SafeVisitor if you plan on going beyond the front desk. This includes classroom volunteers, trip chaperones, substitute teaching or any other activity that may bring you into our buildings during school hours. Registration is good for four years.

If you are already signed up, but need to renew it, you can do it now! SafeVisitor will also email you when you are 30 days from expiration.

Please join us for our Summer Family Night at the Maple Glen School Garden! The MGES Garden Club and the WHS Environmental Club brought the garden back to life this spring after COVID-19 put a halt to the last few growing seasons. We would love your help with keeping our garden growing this summer. Join us to learn what we have grown so far and what happens to our produce. Help us weed, spread mulch, harvest ripe produce, water, and plant our fall crop! Join us for the whole evening, or just stop by and say hello. We would love to have you!

Re-enrollment is REQUIRED for EVERY student who is currently enrolled and plans on continuing to attend Westfield Washington Schools for school year 2022-23. This enables the district to maintain current medical and emergency information as well as give students access to field trips, and technology. It is extremely important that we have updated medical information. This information is used if your child needs over-the-counter medication from the school nurse or in the case of a medical emergency!

Please use the PowerSchool Parent Portal from a computer to access the Returning Student Registration. If you have not set up an account for your student, please contact your student’s school for instructions and your access ID and access password.

Does your child play a sport for Westfield High School? If so, you might be able to purchase high quality action shots of them at the Rocks Media House site! We attended lots of sporting events this year and have made the photos available exclusively at the site below. Bookmark this site for future events. Next year, we'll start photographing middle school sports.

Rocks Media House is the in-house content creation team whose mission is to promote the awesomeness of our school district while giving students real-world media experience before they graduate high school.

Duke Energy and its Creating Powerful Communities initiative is powering the lives of customers and the vitality of communities with over $30 million in charitable grants each year. This past year, the Westfield High School construction program received a $10,000 grant from Duke Energy! The money was used for protective equipment that will allow our students to safely learn the principals of construction and technology, making them one step closer to being ready for a career the day after high school!

Jeremy Marvel, former assistant principal at Shamrock Springs Elementary School, is set to assume his new position as the principal of Monon Trail Elementary School! We know he will be a great leader at that great school.

The entire district and administration would like to wish former Monon Trail Elementary School Principal Dana Dietz the best of luck in everything she does.

Be on the lookout for Rock on the Block, the new Westfield food truck. Whether the truck is being worked by the high school's culinary program or the district's foodservice partners, you can always expect there to be high quality food coming off of that truck.

It will be making its first appearance at Rock the Block on August 5. Come check it out!

Tools for School is a program, sponsored by Merciful Help Center, that helps families with the purchase of school supplies based on their financial need. If you would like help, click the button below and you will be contacted to make an appointment.

Looking for summer resources in support of your K-6 student? Our WWS Instructional Coaching team created a tool to provide you with fun academic challenges for your student!

Whether you have internet access at home or not, we need your help!

Hamilton County has created a Broadband Task Force, led by the Hamilton County Economic Development Corporation, to explore connectivity issues within the county. It is asking for the public’s help in identifying areas where broadband connections are weak or nonexistent by taking a speed test.

We want to celebrate our Rocks! If you are a Westfield Washington Schools student, teacher, staff member or parent and have a positive story to share, please send us the details! Send an email to comms@wws.k12.in.us. We encourage you to send stories that include personal achievements of your child such as: attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, performing in a community play, earning Scout badges, serving as a volunteer in a non-profit organization, etc., etc. You might just see your story in a future edition of the Shamrock Blast, on our Facebook page or website!
