Community Update from Principal Griffin
Dear Erie High School families,
I hope that the first week back from Winter Break has gone very well for all of our students and families. It has been uplifting for me to see our students back in action, working hard in their classes and extracurricular activities. Our students have so many opportunities to thrive both in and out of the classroom, and it is great to see them settling back into their high school experience this week.
Over the course of this week, we followed the Advisory Schedule daily in order to prepare students for a successful 2nd semester to this school year and for course registration for the 2024-25 school year. During our class meetings, our administrative team reinforced important messages for our students regarding high levels of attendance and engagement in school. Regardless of how far along a student is in their Erie High School career, it is important for them to maintain a strong academic focus and find ways to fully engage in our comprehensive school experience. We encourage all students to become involved in school life beyond the classroom, whether that be in the visual or performing arts, athletics, student clubs/activities, or community service.
As students prepare for final decisions in course registration for the 2024-25 school year, I encourage parents and families to engage in meaningful conversations with their child(ren) about their choices. Course selection is a vital process in the academic achievement of our students, and we want our students to make thoughtful choices about courses that align with their academic interests, personal strengths, and postsecondary goals. As a large comprehensive high school, and with the robust support of our SVVSD Board of Education, Dr. Haddad, and leadership team, we are fortunate to offer our students an array of academic coursework and unique programs that meet the needs of a broad range of students. Please support your child(ren) in capitalizing on these amazing opportunities, not only at Erie High School, but also through the SVVSD Innovation Center and the CETC.
The Erie High School Education Foundation is gearing up for the 2024 scholarship selection process. For members of the Class of 2024, the deadline for submitting applications for scholarships through EHSEF is Thursday, February 1st. Students and families can gather more information about the robust scholarship program and the application process on the EHSEF scholarship website.
Along those lines, we hope to see a great turnout of the Erie community at the FACE concert at Erie High School on Friday, January 26th. To purchase tickets, please visit this website. I am thrilled that the EHS 5130 choral group will be performing as the opening act at this concert. This is an important fundraiser for the EHSEF in their efforts to provide over $85,000 in scholarships to the students of the graduating Class of 2024.
Thank you for your continued partnership in the success and achievement of your child(ren). I hope that you and your family have a restful, relaxing three-day weekend and Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
Sincerely,
Josh Griffin

Heart of Erie Award Recipient
Sienna Torres (9th Grade)
Ryan Hunter (12th Grade)
Melinda Mien (12th Grade)
Maleeya Fernando (9th Grade)
I am nominating Maleeya because of her amazingly hard work ethic in every art class I’ve had her in. She’s a self-motivated student who takes pride in the quality of her work and always brings a positive and helpful attitude to the classroom. She’s also very respectful, is always willing to help other students.

Registration Update
Students had the opportunity to register for their 24-25 classes during Advisory this week. We encourage parents to get involved in this exciting process by talking with your students about what they have requested for next school year and how these courses could prepare them for their future goals. If your student still has questions about EHS and SVVSD course offerings, we encourage them to take advantage of the many resources available on our website and to connect with their counselor and current teachers. Registration through Infinite Campus closes on February 2nd, so we encourage students to prioritize this important registration opportunity.
