Principal's Message
Friday, Hibernation Day!
We earned Hibernation Day! That means we get to wear our pajamas and bring a stuffy to school. We will have a wonderful day of reading activities. Thanks to everyone for making our Read-a-Thon so successful. Murwood students read a total of 166,908 minutes and our families raised $27,290!!
Halloween Celebration
On Friday, October 28th, students will be allowed to wear their costumes to school. Our Halloween parade will take place at 8:30 am on the blacktop. Our amazing PTA Room Parents are working closely with teachers to help organize fun games, art and treats in class that day as well. Students will also get a chance to participate in the annual pumpkin decorating contest. ALL TK/K students will attend school from 8:10-12:55. This way they will all be able to join in all of the activities!
To support our efforts to ensure we are an inclusive school community where everyone feels as though they belong, students should avoid wearing costumes that are racially, ethnically, and/or culturally based, or those that play on gender stereotypes. Here are some thoughts to consider as families prepare Halloween costumes to wear at school:
Please consider the impact a costume depicting an ethnic/racial/cultural group can have on others, including making people feel unsafe and/or disrespected. Dressing up as a particular person or character from a story or movie who is not of his/her same ethnic, racial, or cultural group should be avoided.
Please reflect on what it means to depict a culture or race even for a day because for many people it is not just a costume, it is part of their identity. Even if your child is part of the group of people the costume is intended to represent, it is helpful to ask if the costume is perpetuating a negative stereotype.
Consider that a costume meant to be funny because it is making light of an ethnic or racial group is most likely a caricature, and thus not appropriate.
Also, please see the following costume guidance below:
We must be able to identify students; no masks that cover the entire face.
Face paint is acceptable as long is it not gory (i.e. no blood)
No weapons. Even fake weapons made of plastic, foam, etc.
Inflatable costumes are ok for the parade only. Students must be able to remove their inflatable costume for class time
Costumes must not reference weapons, drugs, or alcohol.
Thank you for your continued support.

Notes From The Office
Traffic Reminders
To ensure you and your student’s safety when walking, please use sidewalks and crosswalks and avoid walking through the parking lot.
Students should always exit their vehicles on the right side (yellow curb).
Please be aware of vehicle speed both when entering and exiting the school.
Never leave your car unattended in the drop-off/pick-up lane. This can cause a traffic back-up. If you need to walk your child in, please park in an appropriate (non staff) space.
Please remember to pull as far forward as you can so that we can maximize the number of cars being able to unload/pick-up students.
Early Drop-Offs
We have seen an increase in the number of students being dropped off too early in the mornings. As a reminder, students should not be dropped off any earlier than 7:55am (8:40am on Wednesdays) as there is no supervision prior to these times. Students having breakfast may be dropped off at 7:30am (Wednesdays at 8:25am)
Enjoy the amazing Fall weather!

We Made a BIG Impact Together
Each year WCEF releases financials for the fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) to illustrate what a huge difference your gifts to WCEF make in our schools for every student. From wish trees to a record-breaking 1,938 donors, our community answered the call for our schools in 2021-22.
We want to thank our donors, volunteers, teachers, administrators, and staff for helping WCEF reach its goal of $1.3 Million. We did it together.
