Principal's Message...
You'll notice that there are some changes to the format for our weekly newsletter. I've created Elementary, Middle, and High School sections of the newsletter so families can scan to relevant pieces more quickly and avoid confusion. Anything that applies K-12 will be covered in the general sections. My goal is to make the newsletter more readable. This week, the majority of the newsletter will be dedicated to our Hybrid Learning Plan. As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns. (714) 430-2052 ext. 52103 or efineberg@tustin.k12.ca.us
Mr. Fineberg
HYBRID LEARNING Plan K-12
K-5: Start Date is Monday, September 28th
6-12: Start Date is Tuesday, September 29th
The Monday starting date for K-5 allowed for a clean start to the week for our elementary students. All schedules will remain the same next week September 24-28. Starting Monday, September 28th, we will move to the virtual model.
Please set aside about 10 minutes to view this video. It outlines the protocols for students that will be returning to campus.
Hybrid Learning FAQs
A: K-5 grade start the week of September 28th depending on their grade level will determine the day and time. 6-12 begin September 29th. See the schedule below as well for details.
Q: Can I change my mind and move to in-person or virtual learning?
A: We have planned for students based on your responses to the survey in late August. If circumstances have changed, please contact Mr. Fineberg. As a general rule, the answer is no, you will need to stick with the same model throughout the trimester (K-8) or semester (9-12).
Q: Will the live sessions be interactive for all students or just the students that are attending class?
A: Instruction will be interactive for all students. Teachers have worked diligently to come up with new and creative ways to incorporate all students whether they are in person or streaming virtually.
Q: I am a little confused as to when my student attends hybrid and what I requested in August. Can you confirm?
A: August seems like months ago and we understand you may want to confirm. Please email Mr. Fineberg (efineberg@tustin.k12.ca.us), your teacher, or call the office (714) 430-2052 and we will be happy to confirm your time and preference.
HYBRID SCHEDULES: Beginning the WEEK of September 28th
Elementary Information
Reading/Math Assessments: Students will be completing a reading assessment and math assessment over the course of the next couple of weeks. Your teacher's newsletter will be providing details. Some of your students may need help getting started. Please be sure they complete the assessments on their own in order to ensure we get an accurate measure of their current achievement.
Middle School Information
Gizmos: Our students have begun to use Gizmos for their science lessons. It is an extremely interactive and engaging platform to teach science from. Our teachers have jumped right in and done a great job to incorporate this engaging tool.
High School Information
Hybrid Learning Schedule: Remember that all schedules will remain the same for hybrid learning. The difference will be that students will come in person to attend class or if they would like a quiet place to study M-Th.
Newsletters: There was some confusion with last week's newsletter in regards to reading teacher newsletters. That message was for our K-8 families. Our high school teachers communicate directly with our students in advisory and through email.

Although it'll be virtual, the goal is for it to be interactive. Share your questions when you register, and they'll include as many as possible in the presentation.

TUSD's School Opening & Safety Plan
The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority as they return to school. When the new school year begins, the on-campus school will look much different than previous years due to new health and safety measures.
Tustin Unified has created a School Opening and Safety Plan that addresses how schools will meet the needs of students in the coming school year. The plan to reopen schools is based on current guidance from public health officials, state agencies, as well as your valuable input from the recent parent survey, and will be updated as the situation evolves. As a result, TUSD has put together two options that will address social-distancing requirements to keep TUSD students and staff safe while also supporting student learning.
For the 2020-21 academic year, Tustin Unified will provide families a choice of two instructional options, including the hybrid model – a blend of in-person and remote learning, and Tustin Connect (K-12) – 100% online virtual school with optional in-person instruction.
The TUSD School Opening and Safety Plan (English linked, Spanish below) covers the many procedures and protocols that are being put in place for a successful and safe reopening. The plan can also be found on the TUSD website at https://www.tustin.k12.ca.us.
