BHS Update- November 4, 2022
Dear Pirate Families:
Yesterday our students had the opportunity to participate in the Special Olympics Unified Football competition against Tipton High School. Unified Special Olympics incorporates students with and without physical and intellectual challenges. It's a fantastic opportunity to help all students see the humanity in one another. Please see the video to learn more about how well all of our Pirates represented BHS at this event yesterday.
On Friday, November 11, we will honor our community Veterans with the annual Veterans Day Breakfast and Assembly. This demonstration of thanksgiving for serving our country is important. We want to show gratitude for those who have served. Please see more information regarding Veterans Day in the article below.
Finally, we thank the staff at BHS for making Friday a smooth day of learning for our students. Changing a district football game time takes energy and flexibility from our entire staff. Teachers jumped in to cover classes for coaches leaving early, the kitchen prepared extra lunches early for our team, and our administrative assistants answered many phone calls. It was an all-hands-on-deck day for the Pirates, and I’m so grateful for everyone’s efforts to put our students at the center of our decision-making. Well done, Pirates!
Go Pirates!

BHS Offers ASVAB Test to Seniors
The ASVAB stands for the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. It is a nationally-normed, multi-aptitude test battery for high school and post-secondary students. There are several reasons why it may be beneficial for your student to take the ASVAB:
1.Military Entrance Exam: The ASVAB is an entrance exam for individuals interested in joining the military after high school. Seniors interested in the military need to take the ASVAB before graduation. If your student has already taken the ASVAB for the military, they need to check with their recruiter before retaking the ASVAB, as the military takes the most recent score, not the highest score.
2.Strengths Finder: The ASVAB covers content areas that other tests, such as EOCs, ACT, and/or Accuplacer, do not. It focuses on skill levels in various technology fields, which could show strengths in different career fields that your student may not have considered.
The ASVAB evaluates skills in the following areas: General Science, Arithmetic Reasoning, Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Numerical Operations, Coding Speed, Auto and Shop Information, Mathematics Knowledge, Mechanical Comprehension, and Electronics. This test is about 3 hours.
If any of these cases apply to your senior student, please have them visit the counseling office to sign up. The deadline to sign up is Monday, November 14.
