Welcome Back!
From the Principal
Minnehaha Family,
We are excited to start a new year. I want to thank you for choosing Minnehaha for your child's education!
One huge change is the addition of Courtney Brandt as our new administrative assistant. Jenny took the open position at the high school and Courtney came to Minnehaha from Community Education. As you can imagine the Minnehaha administrative position is a big job and most if it is learning on the job. Courtney is going to do a fantastic job but be a little patient as she learns the ropes. I look forward to introducing you to all of our new staff soon.
Return to Normalcy. Following the lead of the CDC and the district health team we are moving on from the pandemic. We will return to many of our pre-covid practices. We learned a lot through the pandemic and we will use what we learned to make the school run more efficiently. At this time no masking is required (of course children are free to wear one if they wish.). Please watch for updates from the nurses regarding health updates and protocols. I have worked in education as a para, teacher and administrator for almost 30 years and the pandemic was the absolutely most disruptive thing to learning I’ve ever experienced. We are going to continue to work hard on recovering lost learning and have extreme confidence in this staff.
Class lists are up! We know this is something children and parents anticipate much of the summer. We don’t post them until this time in the summer because they are constantly changing as students enroll and leave during the summer. We are very confident that they will not change at this point. We do not accept parent requests to move students at this point. We have a process we set up in the spring to give parents input in the class selection. We try to honor reasonable requests at that time but due to many factors we don’t change the lists in the fall.
VERY IMPORTANT: Schools are funded through many sources and with various formulas which dictate the amount of funds schools get. One way our school is funded is through our free and reduced lunch counts. These numbers dictate how much money we get to support, in addition to other things, our Title I program to offer interventions to struggling learners, Title IV program which provides extra opportunities for kids in music and art, Title II which provides us money to train our staff. Even if you feel you will not qualify for this benefit please take time to submit the form.
IF YOU ARE PICKING YOUR CHILD UP FROM SCHOOL: Parent pick up will be door #1 or #2. Kindergarten students and siblings will be dismissed at Door #1. 1st - 5th grade students will be dismissed at Door #2.
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL ~ TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6TH!
