BULLDOG BARK

On Friday October 6th third grade students visited Lake St. Clair Metropark to for a science and social studies Field Trip. For part of the day, students paddled through the marsh and learned about French Voyageurs and the role they played in Michigan History. Along the way, they were able to see many animals in their natural habitat. Students also toured the Nature Center where they saw live animals, animal bones, and fur. Students had the opportunity to pet a live Eastern Fox Snake! While hiking on the nature trails, students spotted a variety of animals as they learned about the habitats and ecosystem. It was an incredible day full of learning and fun!

5th Graders have been learning about the U.S. Constitution. Students completed an informational flip book, read a mini book titled, "Writing the Constitution", and watched the Schoolhouse Rock video, "The Preamble". They also wrote "Barks" (like a Tweet) of facts they found interesting about the historical document. Their studies of the U.S. Constitution will wrap up with creating a classroom Bill of Rights.

Our 6th grade students had their first field trip to Howell Nature Center. During our field trip, students worked on team building, survival, and communication skills through a variety of courses, which included high ropes, zip lining, and a course focused on team building. This field trip was the start of our students working together and communicating with each other. These are some of the core skills we teach throughout the year. We all had so much fun on this field trip and look forward to the rest of the year!

We are looking forward to having our teachers meet with you and your child during Emerson's Student - Led Conferences. During this time, students will showcase their goals and academic progress. It is important to include your child in these conferences so that they can take ownership of their academic plan for the year.

Conference dates and times are as follows:

Wednesday, October 25th from 4:30 to 7:30 PM

Thursday, October 26th from 1:00-3:30 PM & 4:30-7:30 PM

Next week each classroom teacher will be sending home classroom and/or grade-level specific conference information via email. Our teachers will once again be using the online scheduling service, Sign-Up Genius, to do so. This process is very easy, and only takes a few minutes to sign-up for a time. If you have multiple children at Emerson, you will receive an email from EACH teacher and will need to review information from them to ensure multiple conferences are scheduled. Links will also be included in next week’s edition of the Bulldog Bark.

Dear Emerson Parents,

Halloween is quickly approaching! Children are shopping for costumes, planning their candy routes, and anticipating exciting activities. At Emerson we recognize this excitement in our students and we want to ensure Halloween is a fun-filled, positive experience for all of our students.

On Tuesday, October 31st students will be celebrating Halloween. This is an EARLY RELEASE DAY and students are dismissed at 1:30 P.M. Our school-wide parade will begin at 10:45 A.M.and we will parade through the neighborhood. Parents are welcome to stand around the parade route. We will be walking down Admiral (west) and making the loop around to come back to the school. Unfortunately, in the event of inclement weather, the parade will be indoors for students and staff ONLY.

All students must come to school in regular school clothes on October 31st. Students can wear light/mild Halloween makeup to school that day (eyeshadow, painted freckles, rosy cheeks, etc.). All makeup and hair products must stay home from school that day. Students will be able to change into their costumes prior to the parade.

Make sure to adhere to the following rules:

1. Masks are not to be worn in school or during the parade.

2. HEAVY makeup is not to be worn (light makeup only-eyeshadow, painted freckles, rosy cheeks, etc.)

3. Glitter and fake blood are not to be worn or brought to school.

4. Fake or real weapons are not to be brought to school, i.e., swords, guns, knives, daggers, and the like.

5. Inappropriate costumes are not to be worn to school. Please choose costumes that are positive and/or represent a good role model for our students.

6. No roller blades, roller blade shoes, skateboards or scooters.

7. No bare midriffs.

8. Please use common sense and good judgement when sending your child to school on October 31st.

Classroom teachers will be organizing their classroom or grade level activities. Please make sure to follow all guidelines and parameters as set by the classroom teacher. Some of our classrooms are NUT-FREE and the teachers will inform you of all pertinent information. If a classroom party has not begun when you arrive, please wait patiently. This is needed to allow for a smooth class transition with minimal disruptions.

Remember: a couple of pieces of candy in your child’s lunch are plenty during the week.Thank you for your support.

Elementary students will have the option to purchase snack/a la carte items in addition to their free reimbursable lunch. After lunch service, students will have a selection of items to choose from and pay using cash ONLY. Prices range from .75 for a water to $1.75 for baked chips. Milk is also available for purchase using cash. Students are encouraged to bring small bills or exact change.

The Fraser Goodfellows are once again providing holiday assistance for those in need. Assistance is available to Fraser Residents OR students attending Fraser Public Schools. Please see the flyer linked below for additional information, registration dates & location.

CARE is a resource in our community that helps families and individuals who are experiencing difficulties with mental health or substance abuse. CARE's Student Assistance program offers families the opportunity to receive a thorough assessment for children who are experiencing mental health issues. CARE will then provide resources to assist with concerns. CARE also is a great place to attend parenting classes for Early Childhood through Teen. Speciality classes related to anger management and play and learn groups for younger children are also programs provided through CARE. For more information or for a referral to CARE's Student Assistance program please contact our social worker, Ms. Gentry, or contact CARE at 586-541-CARE.
