Around the School Spotlight
Classes have been having a great time in specials this week! Below is a short note about what our students have been up to….
Music - Popsicle Rhythm Writing. Students will have been taught their grade-level 'rhythm vocabulary' (tah, tee tee, sh, tah-ah, triple-ti, tah-ah-ah-ah). The popsicle-stick kits are a fun variation for writing as they learn to represent the musical patterns. Later, they will have opportunities to read rhythm patterns, echo play them and write them on the white board.
PE - Our Rock Wall arrived this summer (from Hopkins) and our students finally got the chance to use & enjoy it!
STEM -Students were working in collaborative groups on solving the problem of cleaning up a hazardous material spill. We used the Fukushima Nuclear meltdown from 2011 as our real world inspiration. The students were required to program a robot to clean up the spill without the physical assistance from people, because it would be too dangerous.
Great Oregon ShakeOut Earthquake Drills - October 19
The annual Great Oregon ShakeOut is part of an international safety preparedness program, where millions of people worldwide participate in earthquake drills on the same day. This year’s earthquake drills will be held on October 19, and for all of Oregon will be held at 10:19am. All schools and district facilities will participate in this annual drill, and this is the first of two earthquake drills that will be practiced by our locations this year.

Destiny Library System Notifications
As part of our ongoing effort to increase communication between schools and families surrounding literacy, families will now begin to receive a weekly message sharing a list of what your student has checked out from the school library. This message will be sent every Thursday at 4pm.
At this time we are only able to send the email to the student and the first parent/guardian listed in Synergy. We’re working with our partners to include the first four parents/guardians in Synergy. Thank you for your ongoing partnership!
