What is all the buzz about MakerSpaces? Makerspaces, sometimes also referred to as hackerspaces, hackspaces, and fablabs are creative, DIY spaces where people can gather to create, invent, and learn. In libraries they often have 3D printers, software, electronics, craft and hardware supplies and tools, and more. Interest is growing in classrooms and media centers throughout the district. Mac Tip: Spotlight Gets a Makeover in Yosemite
Spotlight has been a great tool Mac operating systems have been equipped with for a number of years, however, Yosemite has taken Spotlight to new levels.
- When accessing Spotlight, whether in the top right hand corner of the screen or using the shortcut (Command-Space), you will notice that it appears right in the middle of your screen and it is much bigger.
- Spotlight used to simply search your files, offer dictionary searches, and provide Web/Wikipedia searches but now it does so much more. Along with those searches, it has added Bing Web search, the App Store, the iTunes Store, top websites, headlines from the news, and maps.
The key is putting Spotlight to work for you. At the very least, get into the habit of pressing Command-Spacebar whenever you need to quickly find a file or open an application, but know that it offers so much more.
